Question How to move blog with lots of photos from one site to another? Please Help.

    Hello all,

I am moving a site from it's current host and theme to another setup. I need to move the blog with all it's photos. However, I can't seem to figure it out as I don't want to spend the $300 website movers cost option in my cpanel.

I have gone into the site files via ftp and started to copying everything but it results in a time out due to it's size.

Please advise and thank you for your time.

What platform is it based on? Is it Wordpress?

If it's custom made website, that's a bit different but doable... Depends what type of site this is in order to give you some more advice.

Just let me know if it's WP I might have a solution for you right away.

    Cheers!

zip all your files, download it trough your domain and export your db in file.
Now when you have everything just go to another host and upload those files and import your db

If you're techie, login via SSH and ftp the site across to the new host. Backup entire db and then dump it on the new db. Boom.

Go to CPanel and then go to your file manager. Select all the files and folders and zip it. If it's not more than a gb, then it will get zipped successfully. Then use a download manager and download it. Using filezilla can take you ages becuase it has to make requests for each and every files and folders.
For the db, connect to SSH using puTTY and use mysqldump command. Google it...

It is a wordpress theme and it is being moved to a bluehost account. The size is most definitely more than gig. I hope this helps and I really appreciate everyone's help.

Give my last post a try. I have zipped files more than a gig before with the inbuilt zip functionality. If it doesn't work, then you might try the tar command in your SSH terminal.

Try to find wpclone, if you don't manage to find it, PM me and I'll help you out with everything later today.
I've cloned hundreds of sites with it, with just like 2 clicks...

Also, I have to say what gOgOl is suggesting is also very easy to do and quick method for transfer, but WP Clone is a bit easier (was easier for me) as it handles everything itself...

    Anyway, it's up to you!

Its not that hard you thinks. Simplest way has been replied to you. If your installed directory size is more than 1 gb then make 2 or 3 zip archives. Download them via download manager. go to backup and download your db.sql now go to your new cpanel and upload all zip files and extract them. Create a new database and user (If u need). then go to phpadmin and click on db name u created. After that import the db.sql file and click go.
now edit wp-config.php, replace the old database name , username and password with new database prooperties. U have done it simply.

That's the best and fastest way of doing, just the dump and import SQL files first AND if your domain or path changes you HAVE to edit sql file and change the path in there.

    Good luck.
