Upgrading to Wordpress version 3.3.1 - Will it screw my config/customization?
Gents,
I need to upgrade the Wordpress version of my blog as it is getting too old and I am aware of its security holes. I have configured my free theme to look very different than what it'd look. I have modified the theme code and added plugins to make it better.
If I upgrade to the latest Wordpress, will this affect the customization of my blog/theme? I am aware that it is best to try it out with a "child theme" (or something like that) but I just don't have the time to sit down and go through creating a child theme. On the other hand, I simply need to click on "update" to install the latest WP version and that is it. I've tried Googling and have read different opinions. My current version is 3.1.3 and I assume it'd be a good idea to back up everything prior to installing.
I would appreciate if you can let me know of any changes/modifications I should be expecting

So can I click without any worries the so tempting "update automatically" button sitting on my dashboard?
I have read about child themes being important tools when doing big updates but can't remember if they are useful for WP updates or Themes updates. Can you let me know when I should use a child theme?
Thanks.

Yes, you can, why not? Course if your theme is not stored in /twentyeleven folder. If it is, simple rename it.

Cheers.
What would be a good plugin to back up everything on WP? I back up everything via Cpanel but I read that one should also either manually or through a plugin back up all related to WP (content, plugins, code etc).
