Ok so me and my friend have been trying to figure out for the last 2 hours, why some of our sites are indexed different in different locations, 1 of our sites is in 3rd spot in another state in 4th, but this not a big deal. Another site is in 7th spot, go to another state threw proxies, its no where to be found. Anyone have any ideas. This can be huge if your tryin to get traffic to a site and alot of states etc are not seeing it ???

Google does vary results with personalized search, search tracking etc. But there typically wouldn't be more than a couple of spots of changes.

Does it make sense to you for Google to vary the results based on state? Like, do the results which are higher in other states make sense to be ranked #1 and #2? Is your product and website benefit users in every state equally, or do other websites offer a better solution for people from other states?

Hope that all makes sense...

not sure im following you on that but it shouldnt matter what state your in if you type your keyword in and it comes up with number 4 spot, and go to the next state with same keyword it should be the same ?

If I search "Cheapest hotel near me", I certainly don't want the same results in every city. Certain niches lean towards offline sales, which means when someone does a search for it, they expect to see local results, without having to type in their city name.

Certain states/locations will also have dramatically different beliefs based on culture and religion of their area, so Google needs to take that into account. Google narrows down the results down using every bit of information they can get, so it definitely makes sense that different states get different results.

Currently I'm seeing a lot of weird stuff with G and its search results.

I agree that it all depends on the keyword. One of my niche sites comes in a different place depending on the country (i.e G *au *ch *bg etc.) that you search from, which is absolute madness if you ask me, but as smart people say:
"Adapt or Die"
