My blog has a PR of 3 and until very recently had a Page Authority of 20. 4 days ago I started putting my keywords in strong bold in the first paragraph, using them about twice per keyword ( I have 3 keywords).

Yesterday, my Page Authority (not Rank) went down to 1!!! and my PR is still 3. I got my blog to rank in the first page for my keywords in the 4 days of putting my keywords in the first paragraph and now I seem to be dancing with Google to the second and third pages.

Can using keywords too much get you penalized by Google? I put down my kws within context and always flowing in story. I read this was a tactic that would help ranking higher and that only when you stuff the titles and first paragraph with the kws that you get penalized. Perhaps I have overdone it slightly but I put my unique content and I wrote the articles so that readers would not be aware I am trying to throw those keywords for that purpose. I had never used this tactic in my blog, for the record, but then I wasn't ranking high because I wasn't even putting my keywords in the content.

Anyone know what is going on? Appreciated!

It can but it doesn't sound like you are stuffing. Also the PA or DA shouldn't have fallen that much and is unrelated as this is a moz score. Probably that your website just dancing because it is new.

Something simular happend to me when i was playing with the keyword density. But after a while it bounced back to the previous position. Took about 3 weeks.

I think as long as you are not stuffing the keywords there shouldn't be any problem.

So, when do you guys think it becomes too much to throw in the keywords in, say, the first paragraph? I am aiming for three long tail keywords which have one/two common nouns e.g

fast cars
fast modern cars
fast new vehicles

I use these three about 2x in a 5 line paragraph for a total of 6 and I strong bold them. I only use one long tail keyword in the title though. I have been reading about keyword stuffing and it doesn't seem as though I am doing that, especially since the copywrite is not spammy and Google gave me a PR3 very fast upon starting my blog by merely writing my content.
