Are 'Tags' necessary to keep in Wordpress?
I'm using the SEO Booster Pro, so built up quite a big list of tags. From an SEO point of view, is it ok to remove the <p class='tags' or whatever, from single.php?
My assumption being that the tags would still be working in the backend but just not visible to the user. Is this a good practice without any implications on my serp rankings?

Re: Are 'Tags' necessary to keep in Wordpress?
Tags are very important in terms of searching purposes. When I had my WordPress blog having posts without tags, I only received less traffic. In order for you to increase your blog's traffic and Google SERPS, you should have proper on-page optimization and tags on each of your blog post.
When I include these in the sidebar, my traffic soared high every month..and it keeps going!

Re: Are 'Tags' necessary to keep in Wordpress?
It's something I'm currently looking at as well, and I have to agree... my older posts never really recieved any feedback from WP members - but since I've started using Tags on these, I get regular likes and new followers to my blogs.
I'd definitley encourage there use.

I have to agree with the people above, tags don't have a direct effect on SEO but on humans it does. For example if you have a post in the blue widget category and the visitor clicks it and sees multiple posts they would stay more on your page and potentially buy / click.

Tags with Wordpress sites are just as important as keywords.

Yes, Tag is very necessary in wordpress blog. It increase traffic as well as reduce bounce rate. If you want to check how tag is useful then use this code : site:domain.com and check search result. Google shows most of the links which is cached by using TAG.

I would say tags are almost mandatory. There is also a plug in that will scan your article or post and pick out what it thinks are the most relevant tags; so you cna automate it as well.
And I use the "tag cloud" on the right sidebar all the time.

Tags can actually harm your seo if not done right. Dont post false advice here if you dont know it....
I give you a hint whats wrong with wordpress tags...they cause massive duplicate content...You sure dont want any low quality pages esp after panda....
If you want them for your users...set them noindex/nofollow!

With Wordpress being the most popular CMS and blogging platform on the Internet, I find it highly unlikely that Google penalizes for tag pages having duplicate content.
That said I personally add tons of tags to all my posts but I don't really think it has much of an effect on SERPs.

Re: Are 'Tags' necessary to keep in Wordpress?
Quite true that tags are important and infact most of the landing pages from search come via the tag/u-r-l path to my domain. But over time the tags can get quite big especially if using an auto tagging plugin.
How do you guys deal with it? Do you just leave the tags as is, ie: even if there are 15/20 tags to a post?
