wordpress theme (css) help

hey everyone, im new to wordpress themes editing and was wondering if you guys could help

on my site, what im trying to do is remove the sidebar, so its just straight down, no sidebars...

also if anyone knows a "top product" table plugin so it could cover right below my categories, instead of having posts... and then i would like a table of my categories and their subcategories below that... how would i remove my posts on the main page????

also, to achieve this, would i be able to do it with just the custom.css sheet or should i use a child theme? thank you to everyone who could help...

For the sidebar, with most themes, you can go into the sidebar.php file and open with wordpad and copy and paste into into a new text folder, then erase the contents of the sidebar.php file and save it. Then upload it to your wp themes folder via ftp and that should do it.

just did that and there is still an empty chunk of space there, any way to fix it?.

categories with a drop-down menu on top
a "top product" kind of table to go below that
and categories and bulletins below that

how much would you charge to do something like that and support? if i could learn how to do it would even be better... seems simple but i just cant figure out how to
