Word Press - How to use?

Hi,

I'v been blogging for many years now... I uses only blogger to create blogs. Once I tried using WP but i was unable to see options for plugins and many other features. Is WP plugins option available only for US? I'm unsure of how to use all the features which you post threads here... Can anyone please let me know weather i can use WP with all the features for free?? [hope this makes some sense]

it standalone WP, or wp.com?
you will need a stand alone WP, to use all the plugin and some feature

Dude go to youtube and search wordpress tutorial the easiest way to learn it. Yes wordpress itself is free but if you are using wordpress.org you need your own domain and hosting, in regards to plugins the majority are free but there are also paid ones to.

I learnt wordpress all from YouTube. And occasionally search on google when I got really stuck.

I downloaded the wordpress installer.. buts its all in some php and other scripts.. cant i get an exe for this ?? What should i be doing with this installer with php??

what you should be doing then is using wordpress.com and not wordpress.org

ya.. finally i installed wordpress in my pc and done some configuration to see local host... But is it just a local web site we are developing using this WP? or can i update this to my wordpress.com blog(free blog)?? how to sync both of these?? any suggestion?

As much as i never try to discourage people, if you can't even follow installation instructions for wordpress, or dont understand localhost then please just stop using the internet all together.

Are you gonna use SELF hosted wordpress..

Or

wordpresss.com

If your using wordpress.com, just login and try it out. search on google. if you need help.

Just play with it you'll learn.

If you are looking for a exe installer for a web application, that might be your first problem. The script that runs on (most) websites is php. To install, all you need to do is upload the php, create a database and link the wordpress to it. All simple instructions found on the WP website.

Guess u haven't understood my question.. I installed Wp.. using which i'm able to design web pages... and make a website locally.. Do i need to host this separately? Means do I have to buy a domain ? I have a wordpress.com free blog.. can i upload the pages i developed locally to the wordpress.com blog?? I'm abit confused i guess, in finding the link b/w wordpress.com blog and the local hosted wordpress

EddyD is just surprised how someone who is for almost 2 years on BHW doesn't know the difference between a self-hosted wordpress blog (download zips from wp.org and upload them to your webhost) and a free hosted wp.com blog.
Thats usually something you figure out in your first few days in IM.

In short ... you need your own domain if your want a fully customizable blog and you cannot sync your locally installed blog with a free blog on *.wordpress.com
