I have the most basic questions. I just set up a wordpress blog. What in the hell do I write? Also how often should I blog, everyday, every other day.
Thanks
Write as often as you want but for it to keep its place in serps (once you have ti good) you will need to typically update your content 3 times a week. Make sure to always ping your blog so taht SE spiders come.
Find a niche that you know at least a little bit about so that you can write something knowledgable and not completely retarded ;-)
I have never been one to write, in high school and college I used to get my papers offline. Now I guess I have to start writing. I do have an interesting mind.
Blogging is the WORST way to make money online. There are a dozens of reasons, if you want me i can list them for you, but the truth is it really sucks.

Shhhh. Let them figure it out on their own
But seriously, there aren't very many people who are making money blogging and even fewer who are making money blogging useless, regurgitated content. If you're not doing it for the fun, excitement, and networking some people associate with blogging you might want to try another avenue.
I always made money creating a blog, getting links for other blogs in the same niche and then selling the blog. Did this about 5 times for over $500 each time.
Personal Finance was the most lucrative, especially with the Pay Day Loan sponsors.

Looks like somebody are trying to keep the competition low

Nope, I don't blog for profit because I can make significantly more money doing what I do now. The CTR for advertising on most blogs is abysmal. Seriously, ask anyone who runs a major blog. Repeat visitors rarely click ads and that is how a lot of those blogs get the traffic that they get.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but there are better ways to make money. Anyway, the competition is about as high right now as it is ever going to be. Eventually people will realize that to make money you're much better off selling some kind of product or service, not waiting for random clicks.
I've got a blog that got over a million hits last year after 2 separate articles hit front page of Digg and Reddit and even got mentioned on a Fox News blog. I get between 500-1,000 UV's a day from random queries. Went from nothing to PR4 in a matter of weeks. It wasn't monetized then and it isn't monetized now. I write it for fun and because I enjoy analyzing how traffic flows.
It's a good point that repeat visitors probably won't click on your ads. So, basically a blog is a way to build a list, pretty much. Although for people like me, it's a good learning experience and I'm sure there's niches out there that some people will do well with.
Anybody else with thoughts on whether blogs are good/bad $ generators ?
