hey guys

just wanting to let you know if you are using joomla please upgrade to the latest version - a new release was made available today and its includes some security updates!

remember to back up BEFORE you upgrade!

it takes only 2 minutes to complete

thanks

Is there a bigger pile of s*** than Joomla? Their security is about as good as posting a sign on your front door saying, "The door is unlocked and don't be a bad person and enter through it."

we had a thread on here the other day discussing joomla security pretty in depth, you will actually see security issues are more akin to badly written third party apps then joomla itself. keep you site up to date and use well written mainstream components and you shouldnt have problems...

with any mainstream cms your gonna find yourself upgrading from time to time due to security issues, personally i would love to have the time to be coding my own but i dont and certainly dont need to reinvent the wheel each time i do a major project. joomla has a huge developer base and so involved any exploits that are found are usually patched immediately.

if any one has concerns about joomla i will gladly answer them

at the end of the day everyone to their own, what you use to get the results you want is what counts... for me i will continue to use jooma and develop custom tools to help me keep getting the results i do :)

So i still have no idea what Joomla exactly is.

Is it some kind of WYSIWYG software?
I know it's a CMS, but i just don't know what it exactly does.

joomla is a CMS, and does have a wysiwyg gui, (this can be toggled on/off) it is has over 3500+ addons for it too... its also extremely flexible and has very few limitations as to what you can do with it, there are tons of great looking templates, and the whole thing once you know how is easily customized...

unfortunately one of the biggest problems with it is its failure to deliver a good easy to follow tutorials, hence for a lot of people they get frustrated with it and then say its a pile crap... i was also one of those people until i took the time to actually figure it all out... the problem was it took me months to get my head around it untill one day it was like bam i got it...

thats why im getting doing my own tutorials so as to show people how to use joomla, customize it and circumnavigate all the frustrations i had with it!

if i had that type of direction it would have saved me a hellava a lot of hair pulling, ranting, screaming, crying, throwing the pc out of the window types of scenarios

the biggest obstacle i find people have is customizing joomla to look the way they want it too... but its not actually that difficult again once you know how, once you figure that out you dont have to rely on installing other peoples templates and can you start to use your own...

additionally with some modifications it can be very good for SEO

i hope that helps the people that are genuinely interested in it, joomla is a great tool for internet marketing but you do need to put the time in to understand it

please if anyone is going to comment on this thread especially if its say joomla is crap, its shit, etc please back up your comments as to why, and make sure you have your facts right, not reading or taking the time to figure out how something works doesnt make something crap, shit, etc....

put it this way i wouldnt be using it or wasting my time if i thought it was remotely crap or a security problem

if your concerned about security there is a semi detailed thread on this forum about it...

thanks

Im interested in using Joomla. I've been searching for a few good templates and am going to be setting up websites soon.
I have little experience with Joomla..but that was basic content adding for a client which involved going to the article manager and simply adding new articles.
I'm pretty sure the whole new template adding and setting up will be difficult.
Anyways..my point....Would you care to show me a few tutorial videos? Will these be for sale?

You're quite exaggerating. If you could at least post some links, etc. where your exaggerated message is justified, alongside a few more links where other CMS's don't experience security problems or upgrades, that would be nice. Don't scaremonger. Hopefully you did it for the lolz, because your comment doesn't toll any rational.

Alright, so why would someone use Joomla instead of using html/css/php to make a website.
As you said, it'll take months before you learn to work with it, so why not just learn html and just code everything from scratch?

joomla cuts out a lot of the leg work for you, since they are so many additional plugins that have already been created for it it makes life easier

the framework allows for literally click and go installation of these components, and in the cases of a good developer they would have also made the components interactive with each other

with joomla you can create a very big, dynamic, functional not to mention great looking site in hours, where is in most cases trying to the implement php/mysql/css etc you would still be in the starting blocks

the reason it took months to learn when i undertook joomla is because there simply wasnt the resources available to give me a good understanding of it, and to be honest i still feel that a lot of the tutorials are still OTT and too techie for most peoples, hence why i am doing my own to help people
