Will you buy domain just because it sound good at that time? Nobody can know about the future. They are gamblers and they win now. I myself won't buy domain until i know about domaining things.

domaining is not gambling anymore believe me it's a science, once you get a good name and make sure it's worthwhile by taking in consideration many factors
such as time and a logic prediction for the near future ..you'll sell it for the right money ..

anyway such new work for domainers a lil' bit cause it helps getting domains market up

by the way another news for domainers that a deputy in capitol hill called snow bill introduced a bill that would make it easy for business owner take generic domains away from their current owners and could potentially prohibit US based registrars from providing whois privacy services...
a lot of people, including me, signed against the passing of this bill in ThePetetion ..
I Hope it won't be passed

Well until you know about "domaining things" you should not act like you know what you are talking about. It is a gamble if you view it that way. However there are tons of metrics, keyword research, branding potential to rely on if you know what you're doing.

Goto estibot.com if you really need help valuating domains.

Anyway this was an enormous sale, biggest cash sale to date for a domain(topped porn.com!)

Domaining is really unexpected. The value grow faster than any commodity available on earth. I remember offering someone to buy a 3 letter .net for less than 100USD but hijacked by another domainer who paid faster than me in 2004.

Now just after 4 years, 800USD is a wholesale price for 3 letter .net. I really had no luck in domaining. Too less fund too many domains.

Domaining is just a part of the industry. The more you know about it the more you can take a huge bite out of business and get an empire out there.
