I am wondering if anyone has any connections with Rackspace.com I have been negotiating with Rackspace to host Blackhatworld.com and did a fair job but I believe I left money on the table. They started the price at $550 and got them down to $495 per month with No setup fee by taking a 24 month contract. The setup fee is anywhere from $250 down to $135. The next day I tried to go lower it didn't work since the person already asked for manager approval on the previous price.

Heres the system break down..
4GB Ram
Two 250 GB (7200RPM) Set to RAID-1
Plesk unlimited license
Free 25 GB weekly backup
24 month contract ekk  for $495 a month!

If anyone can get me that package at Rackspace for $450 a month (No setup Fee) I will give you a hug and $50 via paypal.
If you can get it for $425 or lower ( No setup fee) I will give you $100 via paypal and two hugs lol.
(please note hugs are online only)
I would like a 12 month contract but if the price is low enough I can do a 24 month contract.

Thanks!
-Dave

JESUS! That is ALOT of bandwidth! Hope its paying off for you commision and affiliatewise!

I wouldnt be to mad if you put adsense up but i think i remmebered you werent gonna do that

I use these guys for my dedicated server...left Valuescum(valueweb) for them...wish I'd wouldve left years ago. Far as I know they're strong and reputable...but PM me and I'll give you contac name or let me know if I can post it here.

Yes due to my time constraints I need to go with the time tested #1 host which is Rackspace (I know there are some people who think otherwise) However they have a lot of trained technicians on hand 24/7 unlike other places which have dopes on hand and only mess up your system.. HaRRo knows what I'm talking about lol He has talked to them too. :)
Over the past 6 months or so I have been consuming more than 40% of my free time and my programmers free time with bad hosts so enough is enough. I will only consider Rackspace as an option...plus I want to be able to display their cool little logo on my website hehe :D

No they will poke holes in the competition. :D They are very smart and sneaky. I tried it twice and this is what they said..

I told them fastservers had faster servers at cheaper prices which included unlimited Plesk license.

...The unlimited version of Plesk at the lowest profitable price point that we could buy your business is at $495/month. Please see the attached document I have included about Fast Servers as well as this support offering link http://www.fastservers.net/managemen...ce-levels.html. Even though we charge you more for the plesk you will ultimately be paying the same amount if not more because of support. They charge you an extra $100/month for the support, and it is only good for up to 5 total hours of support. As they only have around 50 employees... How many techs are there in support if you subtract the sales people, the accountants, the marketing people, the executives, and the administrative people.... 30 or so? Even then 30 people offering all of their customers 24/7 support, and all of them experts in Linux and Plesk... very UNlikely. Rackspace is known around the world for our support, we have 2200 employees with over 80 Certified Redhat Linux techs on staff. Also we have many plesk experts that truly understand how they function together. Besides Redhat and the Government, no other hosting provider has the amount of certified techs on staff 24/7. We deliver on what we promise and FANATICAL support is the only difference. We will be there in the good times and the bad, and Rackspace will not let you down.

This time I told them about Liquid web or suggested I was going to try to host with rackspace.co.uk :)
(For some reason they like typing in different color fonts to get their point accross...the time before this it was bright RED)
David,
I apologize but $495 is the lowest price we can go for the solution you want. As far as competitive pricing there is no limit to the number of hosting providers you can find that have a lower price for similar specs. The reason is you are paying for hardware, software, speeds and feeds, not the reliability, uptime, expertise and support you will receive from Rackspace.
But as I informed you we got the very lowest approval for this solution. The Rackspace UK are also affiliated with us, and they have about a 35% higher price point than the US for a server in the UK.
Suggestion from a friend not a sales person I would not go with liquid web for various reasons http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=664045 check this out first. Also this information:

  • They have around 80 employees. We have more RHCE's than they have employees.

  • Their product offering lists Dedicated hosting, Shared hosting and Virtualized hosting. They also offer colo. Which means they are not specialist/experts like Rackspace.
  • They've copied Fanatical support by calling it "Heroic Support"
  • They don't offer Redhat, just CentOS
  • It looks like they only provide 10Mbps connections, not 100Mbps like ours
  • According to forums they bill both directions of bandwidth, we bill only for outbound.
  • All in all, they are a much smaller company that lacks the depth of service, scalability, support features and experience that we have.

OK I talked to a rep...he's going to email me pricing. If its any better I'll forward it to you. I use liquidweb now and like you said he came right out and said they'd (LW) be cheaper...but that RS is a service oriented provider...blah blah blah...

Quick update I talked with a manager guy John G. and he was able to offer me a price of $429 a month which is great. If I want anti-virus and content management (pinging) its another $25 to $60. I'm trying to get him to throw in content management for FREE we'll see :0

2nd Update...
So its a done deal. I just
sent Rackspace my contract a few minutes ago and will be hosted with them in about 7 days. This forum will have 100% uptime from now on! :redindian

rackspace is pricey but they are the best in the world...believe me, i've been around. started a social networking site on their server which run for about 5 months and the support is phenomenal. no headaches at all. the guys know their shit. did an 18 month contract at $480 with a $250 setup fee. had to break the contract when the shit hit the fan. i still owe them money which i will pay. i definitely want to use them again.:D
