I'm looking for the cheapest place to buy a new MacBook pro with retina display. I have been looking on line but most places all seem to have the same price

my best friend lives there and he said the prices are the same as here on the east coast. are they really cheaper there?

Depends where you're located, usually amazon is good, but bestbuy has 10-15% off for university students, so i always get a good $100-$150 off mine.
