Default OMG, What has happened to my FLASH DRIVE USB ?

I just put all of my files on this 32GB Usb I have and now when I plug it in, I go to open folders and they look empty ?

The storage count does read 11gb left, so the files must be in the folders, Did they become invisible or something?

    HELP ?

    It's possible it's a pirated usb, I got from China $6, It's a beer bottle one.

It's showing how there is only 11GB still left but some of the folders appear empty on my laptops.

    This isn't sounding good.

This is most likely the case. Most of the time, they are just 1gb flashdrives, made to appear as 64gb.

did you pull it out while a file was in transfer?

Some shitty ones can cause a full corruption if that happens.

Have you used it before this with it working? like did it work last time or is this the first use?

Did you save them using the same operating system as you are using now?

It was the first try. And I don't recall pulling it out at all.

Yes all the FILES were made with the SAME LAPTOP that they were on.

I just did the thing Where you check for BAD USB and the FOLDERS that appeared empty now have an icon of WHITE PAPER. I think somehow I fucked them up

I guess the good thing I do have final master wav files of the songs I recorded. I simply lost the VOCAL ONLY and GUITAR ONLY Tracks of certain songs, Would of been nice If I had all of them still. Damn, what do you suggest I do ? Put the rest back on my laptop and see if it happens again if I put them back on ?

Did you originally save your work on your laptop's harddrive and then move the files to the flash drive? If so, why not just get some data recovery software and see if it can find the files on your laptop.

A tip, always "copy" files, never "move" them. Especially from two different types of mediums.

    Hi,
I Had also faced the same problem.
Your files are hidden, unhide it, Go to FOLDER OPTION.and click SHOW all Folders. And Click Apply.

or install smadav and give a scan on your usb. it shows all the hidden folders and click the Unhide option in it.

    With Thanks,

insert that bastard into a ubuntu laptop and see the magic .
PS You will have to change the extension of files for them to work in windows.

In this FOUND.000 folder it has files that say

    RECOVERED FILE FRAGMENTS.

All of them are called FILE(#'s).CHK

I hope I am on the right track with this.

You got an "upgraded" usb. They are low capacity USB drives (e.g 1/2/4GB) that have a "tweaked" firmware. The firmware is what talks to the computers and is responsible for the low-level functionality of the drive. The OS has no way to know if what the firmware says is correct or not. When the OS asks "hey, got more space?", it says "suuure" and what happens is it either overwrites the actual content of the old files of simply writes to nowhere.

So, they install the tweaked firmware in the low capacity usb drives and sell them for high capacity drives.

Google "H2testw". It 's a program that will test your usb drive and tell you if it is "tweaked" or not.

    Simple things first:
Start button -> (right click) computer -> manage -> Disk management.

Is the USB drive loaded? Does the OS recognize the drive? Is the drive properly formatted? Did you remove the drive without ejecting it?

From here you should be able to correct the problem. You may also try moving the drive to a different port, or testing it on another computer.

Well I was able to recover 275 Files WAV, it has the Song Lengths right but when I went to open then in WAVPAD, There's no waves and it's just blank. It plays for the file length but no sound or waves present on the screen.

I think the lesson for everyone is that you should not buy the cheaper "china" usb flash drives especially if you're saving such important things as your projects whether IM related or music related. Consider it like your delivery options for important paperwork. Would you rather ship your important papers in a plastic grocery bag from the dollar store or a Postal Service box with tape? The plastic bag might make it there but the smallest little mistake and your papers/files are gone.

    Just my $0.02

Did you 'Safely Remove' the drive, the first time you used it. That stuff is important.
    Said no one ever.

Seriously though, try get a better quality flash drive in future dude. They aren't expensive. And just for the sake of being sure, check that your folders aren't hidden, before you start hating on Chinese hardware.

    Try Recuva

It's FREE and made by the makers of CCleaner.
I've tried many content spinners and WordAi is by far the best.

Thanks, I got TRC DATA RECOVERY Rolling at the moment. Wow I just read the thing I used before apparently only does certain size limits, So it's quite possible it only gave X Amount of my file's data back, XD.

At least I am entertaining myself for abit HAHA.

DUDE ! , This may be the the ticket, This is like the stuff they use to completely search LAPTOPS from Crime scenes right? I was always told just because it's deleted from the RECYCLE BIN doesn't mean it's off the HARD DRIVE it can be RETRACED and BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE ?

deprecated command but use xcopy in command prompt with a few switches to copy the content on to another drive. This is common when you do not "safely remove hardware"

    • Open the Command Prompt (Click on Start > Run, type cmd and click OK)
    • Here it is assumed your pendrive letter is G (look at the command and change if necessary, look at g in the command below )
    • Enter this command in the Command Prompt attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*
    • Press Enter
    • Now check for your files in on the pen drive

This helped me. If you see the files, go to My Computer, open the flash drive and copy the files to your desktop. Fromat the flash drive and transfer the files back.
    Hope this helps

Well It's over, I didn't get everything back but I got cool old stuff.

It says when I go to RECOVER everything on C DRIVE, Considering it's the same drive it claims not all 100% Will be restored. So perhaps considering I do have my USB loaded with the data I copied perhaps me selecting C DRIVE, Will bring my USB Data back to life inside of a FOLDER On my desktop ? Sounds reasonable.

    Ick, let me re-phrase that.

I get a message saying that if I try restoring selected files to C Drive, which it was originally from I might recover everything. So does that mean I just should select certain I see to go to directly to D DRIVE with USB Equipped considering it's a different drive ? Strange.

There used to be a program written by datarescue. The damn thing recovered files from a flash card of mine I didn't even know existed anymore since it'd been 4 or 5 years and overwritten....I bought it for $50 I think....I had family photos I really wanted back
It recovers anything, usb, flash, compact flash and so on.
