    Default Making work fun

    Hi everyone.

I was wondering about the different ways you guys get through a day of work. We all have our bad days where we've got to force ourselves to finish our work; procrastination is rarely an option as it robs us of our leisure time later in the evening. I do lots of different services for my clients but lately I've had plenty of orders for articles and writing them all is burning me out.

To keep myself going I decided to help myself to some scotch and work with a small buzz. I use the dragon tool to write my articles and as you know, writing with dragon is a lot faster since we all talk faster than we type. For those who don't have it, here is goldenglovez thread on it. Here's the fun part, rather than talking as I normally would, I've been talking like Arnold Schwarzenneger to keep myself entertained. The best part is, my articles take on a more authoritative voice and it's actually increased productivity! Thanks the buzz, it feels more like I'm goofing off instead of working.

So how do you guys deal with off days?

    *EDIT*
Be sure to start a new profile on dragon if you try this out. Dragon learns from how you talk and unless you talk like Arnold, you'll mess up your profile pretty bad after 5000 words. I actually screwed up my original one pretty bad.

Lol, this has to be one of the funniest, but still productive, threads i've seen in here! Will definitely try this, next time I'm working on articles.

Usually I love my work in IM, but if there's really something that's dragging me out I usually set (intermediate) goals, which I'll have to finish until for example noon. As a small reward I would be having something great for lunch. And if I don't make it in time, I'll have to work until it's done to get my food, which makes me work quite fast, lol.

So on your worst days you starve?

I'm just kidding! I used to do that too. Procrastination has always been my worse enemy for as long as I can remember. I am always looking for ways to get myself to work so I was hoping to hear from more people like me and find out about different ways to handle it. I've lost count of how many different games I've invented just to trick myself into thinking work was fun.

It just can't be done. It really is a chore, but with a small bonus.

Sure it's a chore. Just like cleaning up the school cafeteria or painting an entire house is. 80's movies taught us that that could be fun too... somehow.

On my worst days I won't work. I made the experience, if I really try to drag myself through a day where I'm not in my zone, I won't get shit together and it won't be better the next day. If I take the day off tho, I'm fresh again on the next day. That of course is only possible if you dont have a deadline for a customer or sth like that. But yeah, it's really important to be able to evaluate yourself like that and don't pretend you can get through this like any other day.
