i've been checking out freelancer pages like freelancer com and I've wondered how many of you guys are also working there as freelancer and where most of them come to that page from

I hope no one here is one of the hundreds of people that send SEO proposals when I am trying to find a completely unrelated freelancer. I have stopped using the site because of that.

why? lots of scammers there?

There are many scammers, one freelancer disputed my milestone and making FAKE skype chat log and they paid my money to that guy.... I talked to their support and got answer that they cant do anything for it..

wtf..are there other reliable and trustworthy freelancer sites? thx for the feedback so far

Nowadays just as employer, but used to work on oDesk as a translator. But I agree, there's lots of scammers around, and even worse issue are the incompetent fools. I know it might sound a bit racist, but I will never again employ any Indians on Bangladeshis or people from that area - way too many issues with them to make finding the good ones worth my time. It really comes down to you get what you pay for, and paying pennies only gives you frustration.

I have ~90 completed projects there. A lot of fake projects and scammers. I easily spot these guys and don't deal with them, but i have been active there for more than an year.
Recently they bought scriptlance and vWorker and i was happy, because i was expecting more buyers... What a naive mistake - instead of buyers more fake projects and more scammers come to my way.
Freelancer can easily shut your account down for various reasons, i got 2 or 3 accounts banned with around 10-20 projects completed, i didn't lose any funds, but every freelancer knows how hard is to start freelancing with a brand new account.

My advise STAY AWAY!

I am working as a freelancer, just not at freelaner-com, but on a similar one. I am working as a web developer (PHP/RoR) and "unfortunately" it's still my main income, because my IM business doesn't go as well as you would like.

Good thing I stumbled across this thread. I too was about to 'dive in' to the world of online freelancing. With the scamming & crazy amount of undercutting by other bidders, think I'll use my time constructively.

Worked for few months, no order nothing just scammers with weird tactics to collect nice reviews.

Try to Get Rid of it. Or you will succumb to temptation and consequently to low priced Limbo

Freelance site are not that bad, there are really good freelancers. But I admit most of them are very incompetent specialy those people from india and bangladesh they are spamming freelance site such as oDesk freelance.com elance etc.. these people give freelance site a bad reputation. Sorry if I too sound a racist, but thats the reality.

anyway you can easily filter good ones. Most of Professional Freelancers own their own website/ portfolio.
