IRC is a bit dated, a silc is a better choice.

Been using IRC pretty much on daily basis since 2000 - that's frikkin half of my life!

I do miss IRC, but channels I hanged around died years ago, so dunno where its interesting

Why is 'silc' better? I'm pretty sure IRC is still massive and will remain big with enthusiasts.

I use IRC to run my twitter bot, so basically I open a private room, and post to Twitter via IRC, and since IRC is easy to write scripts, it makes for a great twitter auto posting bot

Why wouldn't it be? It takes quite a lot to kill off a protocol as popular as IRC...

silc = Secure Internet Live Conferencing

Right, because it has "secure" in the name, it must be better than the other that does not

You do realize that irc supports SSL since ages right? Doesn't get more secure than that.
