A Bavarian inspired costume for either Oktoberfest or just role playing even if your not Bavarian or even of German descent. But if you want to dress up in Native American inspired clothing then it is morally wrong and your making fun of their culture.

I really Do not see why its so controversial to have this,its so sexy. And yet the media is making it seem bad to wear this if your not a native american.

I think it has to do with the fact that it's a population that has undergone basically a genocide, so it's a little offensive. I just wish they'd see that most people that dress up in Native American stuff are not trying to be disrespectful, and in many cases are having a closer connection with the culture. I understand how Native Americans can get offended, but I wish they could see into the mind of a little kid playing as a Native that he is just having a fun time, and might even be using it as an excuse to get closer to nature and himself. Even when we played Cowboys and Indians, when we were Indians, we were the good guys, you know?

Also, especially thinking back to Oktoberfest, the German people absolutely invite you to dress the part and sing and dance. It's a party.

Its just they need to stop complaining and acting like they are still discriminated against. No one I know hates Native Americans,and I have never seen any thing bad done against any Native Americans. Most people I know are interested in their culture and willing to learn more about it. They really need to lighten up and have parties,and realize their is no conspiracy against them.

I think the media made that worse than it was. But the media in the US is good at doing that. They try to find one person who gets offended by it, and then spin it. I am Native American, and I was not offended at all. I believe it was done in good taste. If she did not know how to wear it, or was crawling around and showing any sort of disrespect, then it would be offensive.

Its because Hollywood invented the perceived image of Native Americans. Sure for some ceremonies tribal elders wore head dresses but in reality there were hundreds of different tribes spread out across the continent all with different dress codes and languages. So it might be a bit offensive to someone whos had there heritage wiped out seeing people running around with fake tomahawks etc going whoop whoop.

Come out to western Canada and take a tour of one of our fine inner cities, reserves, or prisons. You'll see a lot of aboriginal people who aren't exactly flourishing in the our current society. Institutionalized discrimination? Maybe not anymore, but no doubt their are still entire populations basically trapped in cycles of poverty and substance abuse. Plenty of people hate them (see them as a drain on society, or even dangerous), but for the most part they are simply ignored. I get why some of them might think there's a conspiracy against them.

And trust me... the last thing they need is a beer festival.
