Made in Italy sells. People are willing to pay extra just because that labels there. 3 questions i would like to ask.

1.Why does Made in Italy sell?
2. Why do people pay so much more?
3. Could i import $20 made and Italy shits and sell them for $50?

The only problem i see with question 3 is would it be possible to get $20 shirts made in Italy.

Made in Italy sells if we are talking about fashion stuffs, because Italy is a homeland of fashion and European center of fashion. All those huge fashion brands like Gucci, Armani, Sergio tacchini etc. comes from Italy and they have factories in Italy, and people are willing to pay extra for quality and branded stuff.

Basically this. I don't see why it's so hard to understand to you OP.

i can get you shirts for $1 each made in italy :D

But to answer your question I'm renting 3 shops where basicly clothes are being sold from italy.Italy is quite popular not just because of the high fashion names but also because the clothes itself. They have another style like the rest of european clothes.People prefer italian style expecially in summer at least thats whats the tenants are telling me and a normal margin on clothes is arround 200-300%

What do you mean ?
I'm Italian and I actually live in Italy, so if you explain yourself better I can help you out.

Oh, I think 1$ clothes are not really "Made in Italy" ones.

those are chinese lol

It is not a secret that a lot of these fancy Italian brands have factories in China/Indonesia that do 99% of work and then the Italians add some minor details to the clothes and add the 'Made in Italy' tag.

hey the $1 clothes were a joke. They are real you can get them in Venecia from the port with Made in Italy but they are made in china but using italian fashion style.
Normaly jeans cost arround $7-10 and t-shirt depends on quality from $1-8.

If you really want to join that business i would recommend to fly to venecia which is very cheap if you are based in europe and look for the best supplier

It's all perception. The rest of the world perceives Italy as being cultured and fashionable so people make their stuff there to piggyback on that perception.

Because Italy is sexy. Or at least, that's the vibe they give off, as artificial_genius mentioned.

I guess you could say Italy's "brand" is it's fashion, just like French wine, Japanese technology, etc

Armani, Cifonelli, Ducati, Lamborghini, Gucci, Fiorucci, Ferrari, Prada, Maserati, Picchio

Names like those give people ideas...

Its definetly not the brand.People are buying clothes without brands or just noname brands wich contains an italian name/slogan. What counts to the majority is the price and the material used

Everything that is scarce sells esp when there is less supply than demand. why is diamond so expensive? because it is rare. Nowadays not many things are made in italy, instead most of them are made in china that is why.

"Made in Italy" sells because of 3 main points:
1- It's a brand as itself
2- High quality standards artisans (Italians work for passion -positive and negative-)
3- Saying "JUST because of fashion" it's pretty offensive for a country that taught us all (together with Deutscher Wekbund Product/Industrial Design (among others).
...Joe Colombo, Achille Castiglioni, Marco Zanuso, Ettore Sottsass, Carlo Mollino, Giulio Castelli are rolling over their graves reading some comments... :)
