Default Breaking into the adult online business

Here are some top-level points:

* Adult is generally harder than mainstream because of the incredible amount of free adult content available
* Niche, niche, niche! That's the mantra for adult. The more niched you are, the better your conversions are
* Find the audience -- that's of course the other side of the niche issue. If you have a super-narrow niche and no audience then you're not going to make conversions
* Extract all the possible value -- if your traffic does not convert for your niche, exchange it with someone else, so that you get fresh prospects and extract some value out of the traffic you originally had. You can extract *something* of value out of every surfer, just think outside the box.

There's a whole gamut of different ways to do adult. For people in the USA, some of these are less attractive than for people outside the USA -- mostly because of the restrictions on skin content in the USA are very severe (under the guise of preventing child porn, but really to make it more difficult to produce content). The most common monetization mechanisms for US people are:

* Link list -- you provide links to free hosted galleries provided by sponsors and affiliate with the sponsors
* TGP, MGP -- essentially a link list with picture
* Blog -- very profitable, write a tease and put a nice pic that doesn't require documentation, and affiliate with sponsors as above
* Review site -- also very profitable, write reviews of adult sites and send surfers to the site tours, affiliate with sponsors
* Merchandise -- adult toys, videos, magazines, etc etc etc.

Hope this helps to get started.

I've actually thought about doing Adult stuff, and i've got TPG/Link List scripts, my problem's always been finding a decent reliable adult host, any recommendations?

HostGator allows adult and they're generally very widely recommended, including on here.

I did adult before and I am thinking of trying it again. It isn't that hard if you do your keyword research. Blogs are the best way to go from what I learned doing it for about 2-3 years. Hosting isn't hard to find if you are willing to pay about $35-$45 a month for vps. The main thing I did learn was niche your sites and mass produce as much as you can.

I've probably said it a dozen times on this forum...

www.cyberwurx.com

I've used them for 7+ years with virtually zero problems. Fast customer support + fast servers @ a reasonable price. What more can one ask for???

I dabble a bit in the adult fetish industry and I can attest to the "niche" part. VERY important. I was lucky enough to find a fetish that wasn't over-saturated and converts rather well. In fact, I'm currently in talks with a few new models for my site. It can be done with the right niche!

Absolutely right. One other point to mention is to do traffic trades with sites that are related to your niche but not competing, so that you can build your traffic quick. Another way to start the traffic is to post some teaser pics on a forum and leave a link to your site. There's TONS of good adult pic forums.

Sounds like a good deal.

If you go the blog route, you can host the thumbs on your hosting and store the full pics on an image host like http://imagevenue.com/, if you're going to do your own galleries. If you intend to use the free hosted galleries provided by most sponsors, you don't even need that -- you hotlink the thumbs provided and link them to the gallery page.

All this means that you can make do with 5GB/month bandwidth just fine, unless your blog suddenly becomes THE most popular smut site in the world, which is unlikely.

I used to do a ton of traffic trades. That was how I got my traffic. I would start with seo though mostly now. For you other guys you have to get your trades started quickly or they die. Take advantage of the starting traffic you get as much as possible. Posting pics on forums is a good idea to get the traffic started for trades. If you do both pic posting and seo you can get really good traffic fast. It is also a good idea to start out with very few ads so you can build you traffic before sending them to ads.

One more point -- stumbleupon, digg, and several other social bookmarking sites allow adult bookmarks. USE THE FORCE LUKE
