    Default Best IT Course

Hi guys I am going to college soon and need some help in deciding on a course.
Which IT course will the best for securing a job in the future ? I know the IT industry is tough but my passion is IT so I hope to do something related to IT while still getting a decent job in the future.

    Here are my options :

    Information Technology
    Electives:
    -Business Analytics
    -Project Management
    -Enterprise Systems

    Mobile & Network Services
    Electives:
    -Mobile Solutions
    -IT Service Management

    Information Technology
    Electives:
    -Digital Entertainment
    -Information Security
    -Internet and mobile computing
    -IT in finance and investment
    -IT in life sciences

    Thanks in advance!!

Skip college, acquire CompTia A+/Network+ certs, find a internship or low level help desk position, then branch out to either CCNP or MCSE route as you build experience. You'll be further along in your profession in 4 years with zero student loans, while the pack of fresh degree holders (and 40k+ in debt) are fighting for where you started. Doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me.

Edit: This was pre-economic crisis. Nowadays it's tough, but you can still get your foot in the door without the degree. Depends what you want to specialize in.

Edit2: Out of those options, I'd suggest 'Information Security'.

i was a programmer for quite some years. The best jobs are in IT financial and Investment area. On 2nd place it's the mobile industry which is still growing
Wordpress, PHP, Javascript, .htaccess, URL Rewriting ... you know where to come

    My background is IT.

I would steer you toward the Project Management and Security side of things.

Security is HUGE and is getting bigger all the time.

Skip the mobile stuff. I wouldn't take a class in that, as they are probably teaching about mobile crap from a few years ago. It changes too fast to learn in college.

Yes the best experience you can get is to put on a suit, walk into IT places and tell them you would like to volunteer 10+ hours per week as an un-paid intern. Then once they bring you on, talk with the manager/owner and explain that you would like to do this for 3 months and if you are showing them value you would like a paid position.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for all ur suggestions .

To be honest I prefer the first college(offering the course with lesser electives) but apparently the second college is well-known for its IT courses(as shown from the bigger number of electives offered)

Still in a dilemma on what to choose

I would go with anything in Security. It's only going to get bigger. I'm an IT project manager and PM jobs have been highly impacted by offshoring. Many aspects of Security cannot be offshored due to Government regulation.

Does the electives in this college

    Information Technology
    Electives:
    -Business Analytics
    -Project Management
    -Enterprise Systems

really lose out to this by a lot?

    Information Technology
    Electives:
    -Digital Entertainment
    -Information Security
    -Internet and mobile computing
    -IT in finance and investment
    -IT in life sciences

Although the second college is famous for IT but most of my friends in the first college all gave a rating of around 8/10 for that school whereas I dont even have any close friends in the second college to ask.

Its like 60% of my friends went to the first college , 35% went to others and only 5% or less went to the second college.

    All personal opinions welcomed!

And thanks once again to everyone who posted in this thread!
