What is the best response to that question?

I get asked a lot by my family, relatives, (neighbors lol) what I do to make a living and everytime they ask the question, I start acting awkward and my mind goes blank because there is so many things that I do (SEO, Affiliate Marketing, Flipping) and I don't think they will understand it. =/

I always say:

I slang e-crack.

I do online / mobile marketing for offline businesses, so I just say a new-age business consultant, gets the main idea past (business consultant) and peaks curiosity on what's new-age. Might try the slinging e-crack though.

• I sell drugs via email. You know all those viagra emails you get? That's me.
• I work for the King of Nigeria. I send out emails to people around the world giving them free money. Sad thing is, people hardly ever reply.

I know what you mean, most people don't understand how people are able to make money from the internet. I think of that as a good thing, it cuts out a lot of competition for the rest of us.

when i'm going to local bank and deposit some money, she (teller) ask me:
she: What do you do for a living?
me: nothing, just relax on the front of computer and waiting $ shown into my monitor
she: what??!! can you show me the way?? i, i, i, just tired sitting on this fu*king chair at 8-5
me: *lol*

i've told so many people i work with GOOGLE INC.
they react like they just had a cold bath, and ask no more questions.

As I cannot legally work in my current country of residence, I'm just having a holiday. And if it's a cop asking, then I'm just having a holiday with a little tea money.

I just say internet marketing. If they ask further I tell them that some of those ads they see on facebook are mine.

Unfortunately, I have a big ego and need to impress people, so even if my work is half SEO/consulting/web design/web developing/marketing and the other half is CPA, I can't be satisfied with a simple "I do web design" response to keep them at bay.

SINCE I am 19 and I HATE people who assume I work day-to-day at some shitty job, my responses may include:

• I sit around all day doing next to nothing and make money. (If they show signs of doubt: ) Don't believe me? Come with me to the bank later today when I cash a couple of my multi-thousand dollar checks. (I usually cash checks weekly so there really is good opportunity here if they don't believe me lol.)
• I provide campaign management, online marketing, mobile marketing, web design, web development, business consulting, reputation management, print design, offline marketing, and customer retention services for small- to medium-size businesses. (Little close to a regular ol' response, but the long, completely true list baffles them and amuses me.)
• I specialize in the online distribution of [niche 1], [niche 2], [niche 3], and [niche 4]. (Works very well if you use completely unrelated niches because then it's just funny.)

I just say "I'm a writer on the internet," which covers the gamut from articles, postings, website creation, ebook and ecourses, sales and squeeze pages. Saves time and complications telling them about tactics most offliners won't appreciate, or would pay you less for as a web consultant if they did have a handle on it.
