Re: Who else would like to be a BHW Moderator?
So you want to become a moderator because of the "perks"? If you do, don't bother applying as you're not the right person.
Do you really think we all volunteer our time (for free) because we get "extra" thanks and reps for "every" comment? Really? I don't remember the last time I got rep or thanks for anything mod related. Most people just take it for granted that the forum is well moderated.
I don't deal with BSTs, but I know they are a complete nightmare to deal with... I don't see too many benefits in reviewing them. Most vendors give out review copies anyway.
Add in threats, constant PMs, childish arguments, stupid requests and all sorts of other stuff... it's pretty much a full time job. And I only moderate one section!
The ONLY reason I am a moderator is to give back to the forum. It doesn't make me any money and it takes time away from my own business which DOES make money. That's my choice, but I'm happy to help out in the forum that helped me get to where I am today.

To apply: blackhatworld. com/blackhat-seo/staffapp.php
I have no interest in the job. Can tell you from experience being a Mod gives more headaches than enjoyment.
But, the experience on its own is very educational towards human psychology.

I clicked on the link and it said, "sorry you do not have enough posts to apply."
So how many posts would I need?

You should probably spend a bit more time contributing to the forum before you apply. Just a friendly heads up - it's rare for a non-VIP to upgraded to a mod, especially if they aren't a regular contributor on the forum (or a specific sub section).

It's probably not your post count as much as it is that annoying avatar.

Yes, I have been here only since last year. As soon as I get more money I want to be able to donate back, and try and contribute more posts. Mostly right now I am studying and learning, so I'm unable to contribute a lot. I have bought quite a few things on here.

Re: Who else would like to be a BHW Moderator?
I applied but the problem is I only start a thread when I need to ask a question or get some advice. All my "helping" is either in other people's threads or privately in response to others' threads.
I have helped out a ton of people on here but I'm not really one for blowing my own trumpet.
If you feel like thanking someone, thank a mod.

Use multiquote function rather that quoting and replying each post as new post.
Post count padding won't help you mate. Try to make some real contribution here.

You start a thread like this and then post this last comment while earlier you would not want to do this for the perks... BS! You are unable to contribute to the forum but yet want to be a moderator? My call is that all you want is all the free crap that you can get. Need to start making a list of this kind of person so they do not get free stuff from me.

I admit I haven't contributed a lot, but I still want to be a BHW moderator someday. Granted it's a lofty goal. I admit I like free stuff, who doesn't, but my goal is to be a success, right now I don't have much, but I'm trying my best. Peace

Re: Who else would like to be a BHW Moderator?
Being a moderator isn't about the perks, as those are few and far between and outweighed by the strain of keeping a community in order. What it is about however is giving back to a community that you are a part of and in many cases helped to shape and grow you and your business.
Having been staff on many other forums I can tell you it's no picnic but you can for sure take pride in the work you do and how it shapes the community.

Re: Who else would like to be a BHW Moderator?
Mod (from modernist) is a subculture that originated in London, England, in the late 1950s and peaked in the early-to-mid 1960s.[1][2][3]
Significant elements of the mod subculture include fashion (often tailor-made suits); music, including African American soul, Jamaican ska, British beat music, and R&B; and motor scooters. The original mod scene was also associated with amphetamine-fuelled all-night dancing at clubs.[4] From the mid-to-late 1960s and onwards, the mass media often used the term mod in a wider sense to describe anything that was believed to be popular, fashionable, or modern.
There was a mod revival in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s, which was followed by a mod revival in North America in the early 1980s, particularly in Southern California.[5][6]
According to the Wiki anyways.

I know a mod reprimanded me earlier, but I thanked him for it. I think he thought I was deliberately doing it, but I really didn't know. I wanted this thread to be a positive thanks to Moderator's. It looks like the mods are definitely getting more thanks than the Op and deservedly so.

Erm yeah "The OP" (you...) got no thanks because you said you want to be a mod for the perks, they got thanks cause they are hard working individuals who actually get that it's not about that (and they are finding rather witty ways to poke fun at you
yay!)

The irony is that's exactly my point, they deserve more thanks. Now everyone is bashing me.

Actually I am appreciating you for this thread. Many will be wishing to become moderator, but only few express and you are bold to post this thread.
The bashing is because, your OP sounds , you wanna be a mod only for the sake of perks.

Moderators (thanks for the hint Tymillz) could post "Eat excretions!" And people will thank them for it.
People see a title and start sucking up thinking a thanks or so will be beneficial. It is not.
One good thing about being a Moderator: You will have lots and lots of friends.
Your "best friends" will be found in the people that wouldn't even talk to you before you had the position.

I don't think you've ever been a moderator on a website before. In every community I've been a staff member of you end up with way more enemies than friends. Being a mod is a job where you get abused plenty.

To be honest, I could claim to be CEO of Google and you wouldn't know if it was true or not. You wouldn't believe it, but there is no way to be sure now is there?
For the record, I am not making that claim.
If you read my post properly, you would have understood a Moderator has no friends. None that were his friend to begin with and even less than he started out with.
Or at least, this is my experience.
I use emoticons for a reason, not to spam my posts thank you very much.

Want to be a mod? Prepare to be hated, threatened, harrassed by jealous children, argued with - all for doing what the rules say you have to do. Give someone a simple warning (harmless worth 0 points) and have them PM you 50 times demanding you remove it "or else"

.
Being staff on this board is not a popularity contest. If you think any of us do this for the "thanks and rep" you've grossly underestimated the intelligence and dedication of the staff here. Nobody responds to false friends and/or kiss-asses. There are hundreds of actions each and every day that nobody ever sees - it's work, and lots of it.
I agree with this 100% but I'm also in touch with the CEO dude that claims he's from Google.
