Man thats intense. By now I figure the battery would have died anyways.
Contact his cell phone provider, because they can track where all the phones are if they have GPS function on the phone.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but a friend of ours has gone missing. He's been missing since Dec 14 and he suffers from depression and needs regular medication. The authority s have been contacted etc etc, but no luck yet. I know he has an iphone (which he is not answering). Does anyone know of any reliable apps to track his phone via gps? I have searched of course, but there's so much out there to choose from. Everyone is really worried now, so any info would be really great and appreciated very much. Regards and thanks, J
There are apps, but he needs to have it installed in order for you to track it. You'd need his login details. Cell phone companies are able to track the phone, but I believe you need to have a warrant. Best of luck in finding your friend.

Thanks guys, thanks and reps given when thread dies. Great advice already![]()
I thought that this might be a good place to ask for advice as there are many people on here that can 'think outside the box'.
A friend of mine has been missing since the 14th of December. He suffers from depression and needs regular medication. We have done all we can to find him. Contacted police, friends, phone companies etc etc. Mailed his Facebook friends everything we can think of basically.
If any of you guys can think of any different ways to try and find a missing person, I would be so grateful. I'll even pay if the idea works.
Thanks kindly, J.
Well since you already asked everyone if they knew where he was then that throws that one out the window now the next question you need to be asking is where would this type of person go by himself? Personally most people who are depressed run to a place where they feel comfortable at. For me I like to go to outside the air force base and watch the jets take off and land because helps calm me down when im pissed off.
Start asking his friends things he likes to do, places he likes to go and then make an assumption of where he would be at.
Good thinking itzcorky. Much appreciated. I follow that one right away. All the best to you![]()
I am sorry to hear that J
and as bad as it sounds I would definitely check with the city hospitals and public health centers.
I hope he is not that depressed like suicidal depressed..
If he is not picking up his phone i would also try to locate his GPS position(in case the phone has that)
I would also put up some posters in nearby market place..
Hope that helps

Ring up your local radio station, there must be a show on at some point in the day that would lend a helping hand ...
I wonder if it's worthwhile trying to spread the info by way of Facebook or a youtube video or something as well. I know that's easier said than done. Maybe worth a try. The newspaper idea is good, thanks a lot![]()
put your shoes on the person's shoes. where would you go next if that was you? track back where does he usually hangs out when he is still at his normal state. check out his rooms for clues he might write some letter to someone, or a photograph maybe...

Thanks man. The cops was already in his place. No notes, nothing missing or out of place. his cat was gone though.
Do you think your friend have money with him? if you think he have enough money to travel 50-70kms and arrange food on the table for 7 days then he may gone to the area of 50-70 kms. 50-70kms is the area which i like to go in case of running out of my home.
You must check all the nearby areas of 50 kms with the help of police.
Type his name in Google! make sure you put "quotes" so you get the best results.
If that don't work;
Have his parents contact his cell network see if his phone has been on and used at any point; they have ways of seeing where and when it has been on. But you might need a warrant from the Police.

Create a page in Facebook, post his picture
James2 (01-04-2012)
Take a look at his browsing history for the past few weeks.. Look for hotels, transportation services (airline/ bus routes) and general information on certain towns or places first. If there is nothing that seems out of the ordinary then see if there are forums or communities that he has been active on, with a bit of luck your friend has automatical sign-in enabled, log in and ask if anybody has a clue to where he has been. If you find anything, be sure to share it with the police as they have access to rescources that you don't have. I hope it helps & good luck!

What about doing a Youtube Video Missing Person type video. Anything to draw attention. Did you contact Nancy Grace on Facebook? Maybe she can help too.
James2 (01-04-2012)
good point.
1. check his browser history. if he is logged in mail...read all sent msg.
2. if he is carrying a phone, cell phone company can track from which area that phone is sending signal. I think this can be done, even with a turned off phone.

Some good ideas coming up here. Thank you all so much. Repping and thanking all who contributeNancy Grace by the way? And phone tracing: Love to know how to do that. I emailed the phone company, just waiting for a reply now.
I certainly think a Facebook page is a good idea. Get on FB chat and ask all their friends to share it, stress the importance that everyone in the local area shares the page.
You should find many people willing to help. Remind them that its just a click and they could be saving a life.

Working on a Facebook page nowThanks. I cant give out more rep right now, sorry. I think it wont let me give out more for 24 hours, but I will rep more once I can.

hope this help
post on CL with his pic
James2 (01-04-2012)
Put posters with his picture, and write below 100$ to the person who finds him and let you know. And stick them out around the city and then just start counting! You must get the first call within few hours.
Just my two cents!
James2 (01-04-2012)
A good two cents worth, thanks![]()
But money does motivate people. Personally I wouldn't take the $100 dollars, but some would.
So he is missing for about 3 weeks by now?
Thats a pretty long time - and the best strategy at this point will be to offer a cash reward for a lead. You'll have to promote the offer on places like FB, bus stations and food services he liked to visit.
Money = faster results, and the more time passes the harder it will be to find him.

James2 (01-04-2012)
Lancis, agreed. knz84 I'm sorry to hear that![]()

Honestly it's the police and agencies that have the best resources for stuff like this. I'm assuming that they didn't take a wad of money with them so therefore will need to access their money at some point (cashpoint etc) - the police have the authority to check when/where a person accessed their accounts etc.
Just be sure to stress to the police that they are considered vulnerable because of their mental state (depression) so that they put more priority into the effort (their age may also help prioritize if they're young but you don't mention that).
Cheers, and good luck

when I get depressed I want to to go outside and be left alone. I have a friend that has been depressed for a long time and she just shuts the world out. depression sucks. it is very common to want to be left alone. That being said, it,s also a time that you (the depressed person) should reach out. It's really hard though.
friends that go the extra mile like you are very much needed, but not always do depressed people see that at a given time. Not sure why the police didn't track him down with his cell phone. provided he had it (and it was on and or charged), but they should try again (could be charged now), if his phone is not at home.
I had to be hospitalized due to depression. I was out where I would not be found, only to find if you are suicidal the police will track your cell phone. It didn't take the police very long to find me. I can tell you this. when my depression gets real bad - drugs and alcohol get involved (a place to look?).
I don't know if this helps?
I wish you and your friend the best.

Thanks Digital man. Your insight is very helpful and kind. Thing is though, he has no cash (the police checked his bank, no activity for three weeks), not been to work, not been home. Phones off (battery maybe dead). Where do you draw the line between helping and leaving someone alone? Is it common to have a depression episode so long? Randomname: My friend is waiting to hear back from the police ref cell phones. He's an adult by the way, but the police have been informed of his illness. Thanks also for your help![]()
its sad to hear J !!!
The 1st that came in my mind is that you should go and check your local hospitals..
Facebook is best at told by our bhw buddies...
And one of the most important thing is that people feel very lonely these days, no one have time for anyone.
If you find him try to be with him most of the time in needs !!!
Hope for the best![]()

I've seen ads by PIs offering to locate anyone in the US if you have their cellphone number. It may be of dubiuos legality what they are doing behind the scenes, and it may be expensive, but if you have his/her number, and if the phone is on, it sounds like it might be worth it. I don't have any links sorry but you could google and find folks offering the service I'm sure.
