LED lights use about 1/8 the electricity of normal lighting and can last 20 years but cost about $13-20 per light bulb depending on the lumens. Which means that most people would not consider buying them.

I was thinking about in my area starting a company that sells them on a payment plan,or renting them out. Do you think people will be willing to rent something that will save them money?

1. get them at DX for half or third the price and free shipping.
2. sell them under the price of the local market.
3. profit

Doesn't seem like a very good idea. How much would you rent them for? A cent a month, two cents? Anything more and people would rather buy them. If you rent them at two cents a month, you'd have to rent 10000 bulbs to make $200 per month.

Considering you buy them at $10 each that would be a 100k initial investment. Following a simple calculation, you would be in profit after 41 years lol.

I wouldn't rent/lease light bulbs for my house.

You might get some business in industry or commercial if you can justify the math on paper in a proposal. You have to show them how much they would save in their overhead.

They probably can write purchasing them off in taxes since it's a "green" thing.

A payment plan for a $20 item? I'm not sure many people would go for it.

It's an interesting concept though, renting out green technology items. Maybe think bigger, like renting out solar panels or something. If someone could pay a monthly payment that is about equal to their electric bill instead of dropping a few thousand dollars on the panels there would be more takers. It would be a huge investment up front though, with a long wait until you see returns.

If you can PROVE that people are going to save money this could work... as long as the amount they could save every year made sense. If it's $100's every year people would be interested.

Get them into the contract, let them see the savings on their bill for a couple of months, and then send them a special offer with an incentive to pay the lease off so you get the cash all at once.

It may only be a $20 item, but alot of people have between 15-20 light bulbs in there house. Which means it $300-$400 to replace them with LED light bulbs. I'm also thinking about doing renting solar panels,so people can have a choice of their electric company. Right now everyone only has 1 choice of who they pay for electricity, unless they can afford to spend tens of thousands of dollars buying solar panels.
