How do you know why your rep went down?

Well guys today this guy made a post saying he would show us[BHW] how to make money. I signed up for the site and realized it was spam/scam. I had looked it up on google but people said it was an ok site so i went for it. Anyways I came back to the thread to report it as scam/spam. I would link the thread but it got deleted already I believe. So what I am think is that the OP of the thread got mad at me and took it out on my rep I just wanted to know were can I find this info to know for sure. Thanks

Only jr vip and above can take away rep.

At the top of the board click the "user cp" link and scroll to the bottom of the page. There you will see the post that got you negative rep and maybe a comment why.

Thank you friend. And I guess people cant take jokes around here >.< will be more careful next time. Though it was at the BlackHat Lounge were "anything" goes but i guess not.

I don't see how saying you will make us a "cockmeat sandwich" is a joke. That sounds disgusting. That is telling us you will make us suck your dick. Do we seem like the bunch who wants to be told to suck your dick?

I wouldn't pay any attention to rep unless you're selling stuff on here.

Its a joke dude! chill out. I changed the post already because dont want it to go further. And have you not been with friends and they say "im hungry", then you reply "how does a cocksandich sound?" Thats just how LA,Ca is well a phrase used here. Does not mean I am going to have sex with my friend or anything..... I am straight but its just funny.

Don't worry about rep too much, just keep doing good stuff and it'll follow.

It might be a mistake. I haven't see the Rep GUI, but I wonder if it's real easy to do Rep- instead of Rep+. I have one Rep- where the comment was "Thanks". Usually the Rep- leave some kind of remark.

I got correctly aligned on Rep when I first joined. An older member said to not worry about Rep. If you put effort into helping people, the Rep will come naturally. Since then I haven't worried about it. One guy I saw had negative 1000 Rep. I thought that was hilarious. He's now my role model. Also, I got gang neg-repped by several douchebags for bringing up an old thread (didn't occur to me that it could happen, and that it would be bad) and I complained about said doucehbags, and someone came along and made things right by plus-repping me by 10. I figure it was an Admin traveling incognito, making things right when douchebags get too froggy. That also makes me feel better about being unfairly neg-repped. I just sort of hope that some admin-person will come along, see the douchebag neg-repping me (and prolly others) and give them a minus 10 for being a douchebag.

Another thing. You can't deny talent or intelligence. There's no amount of negative rep in the world that can hide the fact that you are obviously a serious IM professional. Any neg rep data that goes along with that is secondary, and says more about the douchebag that gave it to you than it does about you.

Well from the other posts it seems like the OP knows why he got neg repped and it doesn't appear to be an accidental -rep. Just a difference of opinion in what the OP and -rep giver think is acceptable to say. Since rep is really just a popularity poll, the kind of post it turns out the rep was for can often result in some +rep or -rep depending on how people feel about it. Just a lesson for the OP to learn from for the future posts he makes.

I thought I'd explain something though about the part of you're comment I quoted, because I think a lot of regular members wonder about it.

So, can accidental neg repping happen? Yes it's possible.

To give any rep you just click the 'Give Rep' button. The only difference for neg rep is (if you can give it) you have to choose a radio button for agree or disagree before leaving the comment. So it's possible to accidentally click the 'disagree' radio button when you intend to give a +rep.

I accidentally did it once myself a long time ago. Fortunately it was before my rep power got too high, but felt really bad about it and sent the guy a pm telling him i was sorry. As soon as enough time had passed for the system to let me give him rep again, I gave him a +rep to give it back again, (then again a few months later so he could have the +rep I had intended.) That only happened once though, and since then I ALWAYS double check that the 'disagree' option doesn't accidentally get selected.

While that can definitely happen, it actually isn't a common problem. More often it's just that some people who think they've got a neg rep with a positive comment are really just seeing a neutral rep.

A +rep will add to your rep count and show in your usercp with a green icon next to it. A -rep will deduct from your rep count and show with a red icon next to it. But if a new member with low rep power gives a +rep, it doesn't affect your rep count either way and will show as a grey icon.

Rep is for D-bags who actually care about that type of kiddie stuff. Does neg rep affect your ability to make money? Don't think so. If you actually care about rep, then I suggest you re-think your priorities in this forum.
