how do I protect my forum from xrummer and other spammers?

Hi, I have mybb powered forum and I get many spam posts. I assume those are xrummer blasts. What is the best way to fight from these?

not arguing but curious as im not sure how it works. if the answer to the captcha is in the sites code (or is it offsite?) how would it be different?

i have contact forms on my sites and need the spam to stop. i thin its more sbox than xrum though

isn't that the reason for those bots fees at the end of the day ? if you don't wanna have too much headache with those bots try vbulletin lol well bots can hit vbulletin too but ... there are some tweaks what you can do for them ...

Adding a security question works. There is a plugin by -g33k- which also rotates questions which is nice.

The correct answer is stored as a hash, the hash of the the input is compared to the hash of the correct answer.

(Securing passwords uses a similar scheme)

xrumer can bypass these

try adding all of the xrumer sites they spam into your blocked words blacklist it should keep them from getting anywhere with out links ... and have having more members isnt a bad thing is it

There are a number of ways to shit xrumer, it's not a perfect tool. However you're in the wrong forum, maybe go to stopforumspam and they would be more willing (but unable) to help you.

use those captcha where you are going to solve an image puzzle. that will literally stop xrummer on its track. In fact, it is impossible for xrumer to solve image puzzles
