Should I switch from Computer Science to I.T ?

Hi all,

Am in my 3rd year of study and am thinking about converting to I.T... I am wanting to study something that will really help my web development skills take off and the course i have been prescribed for the last 2 years is starting to become more about computer architecture, which while it is interesting it's not what I am really there for.

Feel free to share your suggestions and/or experiences .

I would stay in Computer Science. That is my major, Ive gone back and forth between CS and Mechanical Engineering. As far as pay goes computer science is in the top 5 paying jobs straight out of schooling (in the us). Easy to make 80K+ starting. Can be tedious though.

The thing is, it ain't hard to learn php/asp/html/css and graphic design on your own, it just takes reading tutorials and spending some time on that. But learning what makes computers actually tick? With all the maths involved? I find it hard to believe anyone could learn that kinda stuff without school.

I'm in a computer science course myself, just started actually and while it's really damn easy now (if-then statements?), I know we're gonna go into asm and networking and other cool stuff. I plan to learn some IM and web design side by side by myself, I've been playing around and making sites since like 2002, but I only know xhtml/css/photoshop. Could use some PHP.

Hello,
I.T comes from CS. So, I would suggest not to change your field.
In case if you want to learn more code. You can take help of Books, Internet, College Faculties.

I would say CS is better because it's important to learn the architecture, hardware/internals and maths than learning more programming languages. If you're strong with the fundamentals, it's easy to adapt to any programming language where only syntax varies most of the time.
