Did I do the right thing buying a .us.com domain? Buyers remorse is setting in.

I want to start a Doctor Who fan site and I found that
doctorwho.us.com was for sell. So I bought it instead of something for a few bucks.

Did I do the right thing?
Is the name in URL important when people are looking for you?

Now I am feeling kinda stupid for not buying something cheap and generic.

Are there discussion threads about the importance of the name in the URL? I went through 3 or 4 searches and couldn't pin anything down.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight into my moment of weakness.

I'm wondering the importance of a domain name as well... Starting a micro-niche and I can't get an exact domain so I'd be interested in what people have to say about this.

Forget Doctor Who and .us is it better to buy a domain name that represents your basic concept. Like if you are selling chain saws would it be better to buy chainsaws.com or would fiddlefaddle.com be just as good?

I am not trying to make money it is for fun.

There is no Whois Guard for .US domains so people will see our name address but of course its up to you

Im doing a test on a couple micro niche sites where EMD isnt available, but I read an ebook awhile about a guy whos having great success by adding an irrelevant letter at the end on the domain, like x, y z.

So it would be keywordx.com or keywordz.com. I bought a couple domains like that and waiting to see how it works out.

Depends on what you are trying to do.

Buy the exact domain if you're after a particular keyword for a niche site. If there is no specific keyword you are targeting, then just pick any domain you like. If you want an exact match domain but one isn't available, then go for one that has an extra word. For instance, if you wanted a micro niche site on Doctor Who, but doctorwho.com etc is taken, go with doctorwhoblog.com or the like.

In terms of whether .us is a good idea? Unsure. To be safe I go with only .com's, .org's and .net's.

My experience is its perfectly fine to rank a site without a EMD, but its way easier if it does have it. Aged sites (1+ years) can rank for all sorts of irrelevant things. But for newer sites, they really benefit from EMD's.

Did he give any examples? Might test this extra letter thing too
