So here's a little interesting something I ran into on the web. It's Google's official US Patent on calculating Page Rank!

It's a patent, and all the information is publicly available to anyone who goes looking for it, so im not sharing something super secret here but I think it may help clear up some of the common mis-conceptions regarding Page Rank and backlinking, (I certainly learned a few interesting facts!)

Now this patent is assigned to Stanford University, but Google has exclusive licence rights to the patent. Rights for which Stanford university received 1.8Million Google shares - and later sold for $336 million!

Thanks for the share! It really is interesting to read about the Pagerank algorithm, but it's a shame that you'd need magical math skills to be able to understand everything! Anyways, there's luckily lots of information that doesn't require a university degree in math... Here's a GREAT book for those interested in Pagerank algorithm (google it):
