Default Do you do Internet Marketing for a living?

im wondering how many people hare are actually doing internet marketing for a living and how successful you are now. i would like to hear your stories and if you had a job that you've quit to do this full time. although ive yet to make any good money, the more i spend time on this, the more i think this is the right "career" for me, as i have no interest in doing the 9-5 grind like everyone else is.

Within 1 year I hope to be able to move to either a different country, or simply make a change of lifestyle which allows me to live off of approximately $8,000/year. This should allow me to quit my 9-5 and work full time in IM, and then I can ramp up everything to make real money in this game. So right now, I am just saving 90% of what I make for the future, not able to do it for a living yet.

I'm full time IM. Before I went full-time I was at University, so I never had a job to quit. That said, I have worked as an intern in a few different places, so I know what the 9-5 is like and why I didn't want to do it.

Success is relative - I try not to disclose earnings but I have an awesome work/life balance, take regular holidays and can basically do what I want, when I want.

Don't give up the 9-5 until you are making a decent amount monthly and have at least 6 months of living expenses to fall back on. IM is great when the going is good, but is one of the loneliest industries in the world when times are tough (we've all had those days/weeks/months so don't think it will never happen to you) and you have to be the right sort of person to pull yourself up and get going again.

I pretend to work online, but most of the time I just sit around in my underwear and masturbate compulsively.

Probably because he wants to move to a location where you can live like a king for a minimal amount of money. I am a Canadian boy myself and although I love it here, it would be a dream to live somewhere that you can "live the good life" for cheap.

I'm full time in IM and looking at moving to the US.

Just been looking at house prices over there and DAMN the economy is screwed!!!!

A house that costs 1.5M in Miami would cost 10 (easily) here!

I feel like the lifestyle I would want to live would be frowned upon in Canada. There isn't much wrong with the country, besides the constant rain (but with global warming every country has weather problems.) I also feel like my dollar would go further in other countries. So don't think I am hating on my country, just don't feel like I belong here. With $1000/month, here I am just getting by. In other countries, $1000/month is living well off. Of course, there is no free health care in those countries, so you take your calculated risks.

Ya thats the thing about IM. If you can get a stable internet connection, and run a VPS for your high bandwidth programs, you can do it anywhere. So you are making the same amount of money, same amount of work. Canada/UK has free health care, but so much rain and it ain't that cheap, unless you live in the trashy areas. Where as, with the same amount of money, you can move to the safest, upscale areas of other countries for the same price, and have nicer weather, and a more unique lifestyle, which I think suits most of us.

I was forced into fulltime IM. Took me nearly 2 years of suffering to make it work for me. Like others, I don't like to reveal earnings, but I do ok. I *DO* have to work for my money though, so it's not like some easy as pie thing IMHO.

All this talk of other countries has me interested... I am from California where it is quite expensive, and I am frankly tired of all the new laws and regulations here that are ruining this place. So, I've considered another country for a retirement plan. What's a NICE place to live thats cheap, where I can speak english and still communicate with everyone. I have no desire to learn another language.

I have been doing it for 3 years now. It's not a 9 to 5 more like 24 hours 7 days a week. Because you have to do a lot of trial and error. When you find something that works..you cant sleep because you feel like you are losing money if you do..lol. I suggest you get familiar with a wide variety of online marketing. If your new.. your first year will be tuff . You might even quit. But if your successful then you can be your own boss and make a great living. First year I made about 65k 2nd year 115k 3rd year 2011 I hope 1million!!! But my point.. this is not easy. But it can be done. Good Luck ask people question. I would also go to meet up dot com search local online marketing meeting. you can meet people locally. Support is important to stay motivated and get ideas...again Good luck!! you will need it ;-)

I am full time IM(for the moment ) I got few sales threads running here and there, including BHW and that's my main source of income. I got few sites running and I am getting decent income out of them as well. I am learning, testing, working hard to improve it and have a stable income.

I haven't had 9-5 job, so therefore I got nothing to loose. I am doing part time studies, hopefully I could finish it within another 2 yrs or so, then I will be able to grab job if needed. It all depends on the success in IM that I will be able to achieve within the time to come.

At the moment, I feel kinda secure position in IM. But I always feel IM as a gamble where certain amount of risk is involved.

I would say the best/only choice for living cheap and speaking English is Philippines. You would have to be making $20,000/year to be able to call it a "nice" place I think, but I am sure someone from there can correct me. If you can pull in $30,000/year you could travel to lots of different places also. $668 Roundtrip price Taxes & fees included from Manila to Tokyo for vacations. Steal.

I hate having a boss. I would work for free for somebody if he would be a mentor for me. But a boss... would never be able to have a good relationship with him, especially if he is a moron.

I hate having a program. I have a crazy schedule. Some days I work during night, others during day. I used to wake up in the morning when i was in high-school and college and hated it.

I hate working 8h/day. Sometimes I work 12-16 hours in a day. Other times I don't work at all. On average I work 4h/day. However in those 4h I am 100% focused and manage to do more than an average employee does in 8h. I also hate being payed for time spent on the job as opposed to being payed for performance. If I can do in 4h an 8h job you should be happy and not try to push me to have the same productivity in the next 4h. No boss/job will be OK with that.

I like building my own empire. Even if I only set one brick every day. Even if sometimes is scary. Even if sometimes I feel depressed, lost, without direction, in the end, every single brick will count and I will have my castle. Why work for somebody else? With a job, you only get about 20% of what you produce. The employer pays 80% from your net salary, or more, on taxes because he hired you. So obviously he has to make a lot more to make sense to keep you. Why feed somebody else?!

When I was 19yo I decided that by the age of 30, I will make my first million USD. Haven't made it yet, I am far from it, but at the same time closer than ever. Not a lot of time left, but I am confident I will meet my own self-imposed deadline. I obviously started to learn stuff and IM was the obvious direction to take to reach my goal(s). Three years ago I was dreaming of making $400/mo (minimal money I needed to pay life expenses). Everybody, told me it is impossible and a crazy dream. Family was very very non-supportive in this area. They said, "yeah, ok" and gave me the look like they thought "he's so naive and crazy, doesn't know life is hard, he'll never make it without a job". Friends never too me seriously either. They find it weird I spend all my time in my house working and don't go out with them as much. They "settled", they have a "real" job, a gf/wife, kids, mortgage, loans, etc. They think that's life. I think that's stupid.

After about 1 year of work and continuous external hassle I had to take care of, I reached my $400/month goal. I didn't even noticed it. I realized I met my initial goal when I was making about $1500/mo. Wasn't even ecstatic as I initially thought I would be. Just had a this calm feeling of being on the right track and not having the worry of tomorrow, being fired, financial crises, loans, mortgages, limits imposed by others. For me, everything is a choice. There is nothing I have to do, only things I choose to do. Might be a somewhat imposed choice, but it is 100% my choice. My mother still thinks I should get a "real" job even though I make significantly more money than her .

For me, this is the way to be, this is the way to go. It is not for everybody, though. Most people will fail. Not at IM but at any kind of life that requires you to take the bull by the horns and choose the difficult and long road instead of the easy, short one. All those courses that say it is easy to get rich and have an awesome life... bullshit. This is not easy. It is difficult, requires sacrifices (mostly involving personal life and having fun), will make you feel depressed frequently, will make you feel lost, not confident whether you can make it or not, etc. That's why most fail. Because it is very difficult. Society is not built to help you succeed (but to control you, keep you a dumb monkey), people around you don't have the mindset of winners either. Leave a space between you and the friends who are mentally corroding your dreams. Find people that think like you think. Find people that are successful. Two hours of chat with a successful guy are priceless. A guy who already went through the shit you are going through and got to the point where he is getting work done in a year, more than most people do in a lifetime. Find successful people, make them part of your life, learn from them and this will allow you to see that all the difficulties are mostly in your mind. They exist because you build them.

If you don't quit (which is the ONLY way you can fail), you will one day realize that nothing is difficult. You just think it is difficult. In reality, how easy or difficult something is, is simply irrelevant. If you took the oath towards yourself to make it, to never quit, to succeed and have the life you want to have, everything is just something you have (WANT) to do in order to get there. It is mostly a fight with yourself not with the world.

Then again, you might never make it. Not everybody can make it. Some simply are too naive, too quick to believe crap that they are being fed with, to anxious to sit down and think and plan. They constantly keep looking for the "push button solution", the latest technique, the unfair advantage, the secret knowledge. They never THINK. They never spend time on developing a critical thinking. They are like drug addicts, needing that next dose of hyped crap packed in a PDF file. There is no secret to making money and being successful. Everything that matters has been already discovered and a book was written about it. A $20 book not a $3000 one. And the truly fantastic techniques are never those you learn, but those you discover and architect yourself because you understand things at the core, not just follow the pack and the advice of others.

So, to answer your question, I am full-time dedicated to this type of life. I am making enough money not to worry about tomorrow and have the mental freedom to think huge even though I am walking with small steps. But hey, as somebody once said "if i had 4 hours to cut a tree, I would spend 3 of them sharpening my axe".

I started IM back in 1999, and was just doing it part time because i was not making enough to quit my day job,and i really hated my day job so much, that the anger drove me to wake up at 4 am everyday and do work on the computer before i left for my real job and within 3 months,i struck a very hot niche in adult, but for some reason,i did not beleive an adult sponser was going to send me a check,i thought they were all a bunch of crooks until 1 day i received my first check for $35,so i went to the bank and the check cleared, so within a few weeks i quit my job and scaled everything up,and then the fat checks started to roll in.I will never forget the looks from the pretty bank tellers face when doing my deposits , although today its a much different ball game, working 8-12 hrs/day compared to just a few hrs/day to make the same kind of money.

Yep, ARS sure used to kick ass back in the day. Now Marc De is sitting around polishing his cars while we are still on the grind. If only it were still that easy...

We have many beaches, restaurants, malls and very near in the airport. Most of the people here can understand english. We are christians and we have low crime rate here. You are all welcome to Cebu. Not all places are costly medically. China has pretty awesome hospitals and it's pretty cheap.

This is why I like about this forum. Yes, IM is a loneliest job, and sometime you did felt lost demotivated, who knows just tread like this had motivated me. Thanks for the person who start this topic and thanks for everyone here.

Currently I am learning about IM, I just finish my diploma. Some of my friends already on 9-5 job, but I never like it. Because when meet with them and they start cursing their boss, blaming the company, complaining this and that, and makes their life sucks. I am new to IM and not making anything yet. Everything is tough on starting, not only IM. Just compare things you going to do with IM, you will soon found out the way you want.

Uhm, if you think IM is just about CPA or helping OTHER companies rise to the top of Google, you are crazy.

If we took the top 500 members of this forum, pooled all our money together, rented a few houses close together, rented an office building, and put our minds together and worked hard for 2 years, we could easily have a company worth billions. Granted, that is only 2million+- each... Im not complaining. But there are members here who already COULD make 3-5 million per year, if they actually worked really hard. On ******* I used to see guys making 10-15k/day using adwords targetted ads.

So yes, using IM you can make unlimited money creating the next Ebay, Amazon, Facebook, or Twitter. It is just that most people think small, short term in IM.

IM is never "stable". Keep full time job. Work on this part time till you are confident you can make more money then your full time job. Take time to learn everything it's not an overnight thing.

I do this full time as well. I actually quit my job before I was making enough through IM, but I had a good amount saved up to live off of while I grew my online income.

I think quitting my regular job before actually making a good income online helped me because at that point, I had no choice but to succeed.

I'm also still pretty young and don't have a family or kids to pay for, so I suppose it was easier for me than others, but anyone can do it if they work hard enough at it.

How is a full time job stable? I think there's more of a risk working for someone else than working for yourself. In IM, only YOU determine your income, not some boss. Sure you might go through rough times, but you still have the knowledge to change things around.

With a regular job, if you get fired, your income is gone instantly. Then you have to rely on someone else to hire you and start paying you again. Doesn't sound very stable to me...

5 years IM, 20 years self employed, I know all you young people think its
easy to make a million but its not. My last company I grew to 100 million, then
lost it all. Been doing full time IM making mid 6 figures, not really working that
hard, maybe 4 hours a day. good luck, and try to work for yourself " I hear that
job thing takes up your whole day"

Sure. Rent paid, food bought, vacations 3-4 times each year, clean clothes, safe neighborhood, small donation to charity. I don't see any problem living off that amount. It is more than I think I will ever need. If I ever made that much, I hope I would give lots to my friends, family, and charity.

Everyone has different lifestyles. Many people would be happy with a house on the beach, and a beer/juice/coca-cola in their hand, and nothing more. I don't think you need much money for that, and you can sip your drink and look at beautiful woman all day long. That is a wonderful dream life for me.
