Hi,

I have seen this talked about VERY VERY briefly, so I wanted to try to start a thread to get a better answer...

I have an unlimited hosting plan with h0stg4tor, and I can have unlimited addon domains...

My question is, do Addon domains affect SEO at all?

My reasoning for the question is because basically with an addon domain you are making 2 identical web pages...

When you create an addon domain, it automatically creates a subdomain under the main domain on your hosting account (in this case we will make it domaintest1.com)

So, if I am making a website about shoes and have bought a url (example only of course -- shoesbestfriend.com)

So you will have one site pointing which can be accessed by going to shoesbestfriend.com and another site which can be accessed by going to shoesbestfriend.domaintest1.com

Does that make sense? Any help would be appreciated... I have been reading and reading and still haven't been able to pull in decent ranks, traffic, etc and I am wondering if this is why...?

Thats exactly what i would like to know as well. I have just bought myself a nice autoblog and am about to transfer it over to my hosting. I would like to know if having it as an addon domain will affect how it ranks in google.

In my personal experience addon domains rank just as fine. I'm not in the weight loss or forex niche though :D

I have about 50 add on domain in my bluehost account, most of them are micro niche sites..no problem at all dude..add on does not affect serp..

hope this help you

A add on domain is a real virtual host in Apache so NO outside source could tell if it was a add on domain or not. It is not like a "forward" or a redirect or in a invisable frame or anything.

I do not really understand why cPanel choose to call them add on domains as in Apache they are just regular virtual hosts

The SEO will be fine

If you look at some of those review sites. top-ten-reviews.com or whatever its called. All they use is sub-domains. Those pages out-rank many established sites.

Thank you all for your answers! This helps :)

Thanks for all the answers, I bought a domain and attached as a subdomain. Starting my first SEO project here :)
