should looking for a niche come first before getting a domain?
i think a good niche and several pillar articles in your blog would be the best foundation -- all others come second (traffic, etc.).
i see a lot of sites there that are light on content and the ones that have big usable articles are the ones the people visit over and over...
if $35 is all you got then while you are building your site, go do some quick money schemes first. i got my "startup fund" while sharing hotfile pr0n links, and they are still earning around $10-20/week up until now which goes directly to my paypal. i have stopped sharing for several months now but my hf links are still alive and earning on the pr0n boards out there.
search bhw for "HaRRos Easy Money Methods" and you'll find techniques there.
there's no shame in doing those lowly things to build up a startup fund for your much stable business. a true earning niche blog will take some time to get known organically...

Just get any high converting Email/Zip Submit CPA offer and take the relevant domain according to it and hosting. Then redirect that domain to your CPA offer using iframe. Buy level 2 yahoo answers accounts from the remaining money.
Now start posting in US yahoo answers with your link in source and only 4-5 posts from each account per IP per day. Make posts in relevant topics and you will see the $$$ rolling in.

If you are looking for quick returns, Buy things for your $35, sell it for $45 on ebay! GEt a small margin! Now invest 35 again, make same income again!
Now invest $45 make it 60 and get some good profit!!
Blogging is kinda slow thing to make money towards the investment!!
