Default Degree in IT..need advice..

I have completed my A Level and I am going to further my studies in the University. My interest are Internet marketing and eCommerce. So I plan to do IT in my Bachelor Degree program. I think I can learn more about programming and database. Any advice for me?

I think you should further in course related about business instead of IT.

Honestly, I'm have degree in IT too. But now I know to make me rich I should do something about selling stuff.

About the technical thing like make websites or setup database, there no need to have degree to do it.

The more important is your attitude to learn persistently. That's it. Many people in IM world doesn't have much skill in that technical either. But they outsource it to professional.

You stated that you are planning on majoring in Information Technology/Computer Science. Clearly, the skills acquired from such a degree are highly sought after by companies and corporations. Is there any one aspect of the aforementioned field that particularly interests you? Personally, I would seek a specificity to minor in. Not only does it increase your job marketability but can also prove advantageous if you wish to pursue IM on your own full or part time. A generalized degree coupled with a specific minor will give you a competitive edge personally and professionally.

I know that an IT degree is not necessary when it comes to building Internet business. But I really hate studying all the tedious business theories. I mean I love doing real business rather than memorizing all the facts.

The college counselor advised me to do pure IT, instead of its specialization. Because the specialization might be obsolete when I graduate. Taking pure IT will give me a strong foundation in IT as a whole so that I can easily catch up with any new technology.

I am not saying that you should exclusively pursue a derivative or major in a specialization. I simply felt that minoring in a specialty would be beneficial. Regardless of what you decide, good luck on your educational pursuits!

In other words, I should take up a minor in a specialty while I do my major in pure IT. Thanks a lot!

My advise would be electrical engineering with a minor in marketing. An EE degree can be applied across many fields, including IT and computer science. While getting your EE degree, get your other certifications through outside bodies. This would give you an unbelievable advantage over almost everybody.

I don't wish to go into electrical engineering because I am not interested in the hardware. Actually I want to be a specialist in both Internet marketing and programming.

Trust me do not do business I studied business studies its so general it makes it hard to get jobs unless you just do business marketing, finance or accounting solely on its own. Even then it may be tough. Many people that study subject like IT Networking get jobs easily once they get their foot in the door as there are not as many graduates to compete with. If you want to do IM and ecommerce. If I was you I would try do a joint course say IT with Marketing or Business Information Systems with a course like digital publishing if its possible. I know a lot of people who studied digital publishing and are now in web based roles.

You don't have to be interested in the hardware. Most of EE is the same as any other IT/math/physics /computer science degree. It just opens up so many other fields for you.
