Default I have a web development question...

I hope this is the right place for this. You guys are full of great advice so... How much do you think it would cost to develop a website like logomywaydotcom?

It's structured for clients to hold contests for designers. I want to apply this concept in a different niche. If you're a web developer/coder how much would you say it would cost to develop something like this?

It depends.

Using stock Drupal + Plugins, you can get whip something like this pretty quickly.

You might be better off finding one of the many (and I am sure there will be many) clone scripts out there. This is pretty much the same model that sitepoint and many other sites have been using for a while, so I am sure there will be clones out there.

IT wouldn't be hard at all. You would have to work it though, as moderation is required for handling the posted designs and traffic of artists/designers and people looking for designs. The coding and graphics style would be a pinch though.

PM me with your specs and details of what you are wanting built and I'll give you a quote on a price, timeline and roi for the project, depending on what you are using it for.

Feeling a bit lazy, but here's a case study by someone who did something quite similar, but for a different niche.

Yeah, there are clones out there but drupal blows. It would be a much better script if built from the ground up. However, that depends on your purpose and your budget as well.

IF you are strapped, personal opinions aside, it's true, sitepoint and these cookie cutter places have clone after clone of these things. As a coder myself, I would never use those things, as they are insecure as hell and never work half the time due to all of the bugs in them.

Yeah I'm looking at $5000. I'd like to create something similar but expand on it. Like instead of just logos I'd like to also include contests for marketing creatives such as email templates, landing pages, brochures & menus, etc. I would like to do it from scratch if possible with $5000. I just like the idea of that kind of interaction between client & designer.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I agree, I would never use any of the clones out there. Especially not the 'nulled' versions.

The problem with web dev is that it is hard, and OP should realise that he will need to get his hands dirty to actually build a site that works in the way he wants. Therein lies the problem. You either take something like Drupal, and cobble the bits yourself, and get it 95% working the way you want to.

The alternative is to hire someone to do it for you. Again, this individual can easily put something that works like that for a decent amount. The problem, is that getting it to work just the way you want, that extra 5%, is where the real cost lies, and it can get both very expensive and very frustrating for both parties quite quickly.

2-3 months is not bad at all. I want to hire someone to do it for me. What I want to do is design a few mock ups in Photoshop to show the developer that way i want it. I want to make this a real long term business. I've done alot of methods and made a little money here and there but I find myself back to square and it's time to make some real moves and build something sustainable. Not assuming it will be a success straight away but design is the only thing I'm passionate about so I can't lose. Lots of good ongoing ideas that would benefit both the client and designer. Do you guys recommend any good company or freelancer?

Sorry but designwise this site looks very recycled, nothing original!
I always wondered why even with bad looking sites there's a lot of money to be made...

This is a site worth looking for inspiration for a designer contest design template: gouwdotnu
Pagerank 6 and i have my portfolio link on the front page right now

@ Arraial- That's ok because I'm not focused on anything original. I want to expand on what's already working and do it better by offering more. The reason why "bad looking sites" make money is because clients go there for a good buying experience. It's unique to them and the site layout is clean and simple. I just want to add more categories to it.

So that CrowdedText.com site can be edited to the site I mentioned?

@tonydecarlo: ok, your not looking for something original, but i think that you agree with me that designwise there's a huge difference between CrowdedTextdotcom and logomywaydotcom...

Yeah, that's working pretty steady to get it that fast too, being one developer and it being exactly as the client wants it and it being clean code.
