Microsoft has a 50% monster fail rate for its OS revisions. Vista--bad, XP--okay, Me--bad, 98--okay, etc. Jury is still out on Windows 7, so I'll play it safe with XP.
XP sucked when it first came out....and Microsoft did what it always does.....use the user feedback to fix the problems. XP is pretty decent now. Vista is just a rushed bloated version (think Windows ME) and not many like it. Windows 7 I do like, but there is no way I'm moving to it for at least another year until the users have given Microsoft enough feedback to come up with the first patch.
WIN 7
if u want fast and safe OS!
XP SP3 would be my choice for my development PC
XP SP3 is the best.
XP SP3 till WIN7 SP1.
God Vista was a complete nightmare Windows 7 so far fast, secure, easy to use thumps up!
Lovin Windows 7 Myself, got it running on 3 pc's
Its funny how on the poll no one voted for Vista (literally 0%)
I have a Vista and it pisses me off, she takes like about 1gb steady ram just to idle
and be Vista with no running programs or open folders! Its ridiculous...
After I can figure a way to rip all my serials then I will be going to XP for sure.
Another issue I have with my Vista is that, torrent wise, I almost always get errors
trying to download mp3's ...
So
Friggen
Annoying!
This is my job
i have try them all, xp might be faster and stuff by statistics facts out there, but window 7 features makes me feel more relax

Windows XP SP3 optimized for best performance is my choice for all workstations.
Vista has an annoying habit of getting progressively slower. It starts of OK, then in three month's time it's impossible to work with. While XP is fully supported I'll stick with it.
7 should have the bugs ironed out by then.
XP SP3 Evergreen and of course w 7 also flexible but not as much as xp
