I haven't personally looked into changing the UA on the client-side. It is certainly something that we can research though. It is easy if you're firing connections FROM a server with a headless agent like cURL, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to change this on the client-side; I suspect not easy at all.

I've seen it done to protect peoples affiliate accounts when using purchased traffic from companys that throw a dirty UA.

When a dirty adware UA came up, it was changed and the affiliate company saw a clean UA.

There is some HUGE potential there.

oldenstylehats congratulation on launching another successful product that would be much in demand... now I understand that this is obviously desired by many noobs out there who find it too hard to insert some php code into an index file, and it's great that you make it so easy and convenient... but I have a suggestion for an awesome product that would be REALLY REALLY useful to pretty much everyone involved in some sort of BH IM...

And that would be... AFFILIATE ID GUARDIAN! Yes! Now wouldn't that be awesome? Because right now if someone wants to find out your affiliate ID... they can do so with ease.. relatively... even if you use iframe and cloak the address bar link, they can still get your affiliate ID... now I know that this is something that's much harder than faking the referer... but this would be EXTREMELY popular and I would be very happy to pay SUBSTANTIALLY more $$$ for such product, I'm sure many others will agree.

I haven't tested on all browsers, but you could effectively do something like this with Referer Guardian, though, at the end of the day, if someone really wants to find out and knows what they are doing, they will *always* be able to find out your affiliate ID if it is being passed along to the browser. At some point in time, their browser has to connect to your affiliate link for you to get credit.

I'll make sure to include a guide showing how to do this in the instructions that come with Referer Guardian.

I suppose it is possible, but with Thanksgiving (and related traveling) next week, pretty unlikely. Initially, it was going to be released next Thursday (ON Thanksgiving) because someone (me) is horrible about the dates of major US holidays.

I paid for Wp Guard + Ref Guardian previously. With regards to the product, I'm sure it will deliver.

What DOES set this apart is the INSANE support and great after sales provided. Olden was very patient in going out of his capacity to help me with any problems i had with the product etc.

I recommend this to anyone remotely interested. Looking forward to 2nd Dec or earlier (I Hope! )

Can you offer more information on how it excels over a DMR?

DMR is for blanking and doesn't work very well with modern browsers that have security features that stop them from being forced to send an empty HTTP REFERER. Referer Guardian is more about cloaking/changing the apparent source of the traffic, which is much more acceptable to most companies you'd be pushing traffic to than a blank referer. We'll have a blanking option available, but the idea is to create a second "white hat" webpage that it appears that traffic is coming from. This will lead to less questions about traffic sources in the long run than simply blanking the referer.

Hmm, so aside from your awesome support (don't want to downplay this as it seems fantastic), how does this differ from the CPA Redirector plugin? And really, I'm not trying to bust any balls here. Just curious.

You think in the near future we might see a faker that can use any given site as its referral, not just a WP site?

We could definitely provide a standalone version to customers. We're taking the WP route simply for ease-of-use. Inserting the code is where quite a few people have issues.

Before I get into the comparisons between Referer Guardian and CPA Redirector, I just want to make it clear that I think Brad is a great developer and I commend him for providing a free solution.

The big differences between Referer Guardian and CPA Redirector will be GeoIP redirection, easy link rotation, updates based on customer feedback, the support (as you so kindly mentioned), and no need for editing any code. I think the third item (updates) is where the two plugins will begin to differentiate themselves. We're very receptive to adding in new features based on demand. Most of the new features that have been added to Forum Generator and WP Guardian have come directly from customer feedback.

If you know what you're doing and can code your own features, CPA Redirector may be the best choice for you. If you're new to the game, prefer a little more automation, want to see your ideas implemented in future versions, or want to know that you've got a support team to help if/when you need it, look for Referer Guardian on December 2nd.

WP Guardian and Referer Guardian are very different products. I was just stating that redirection based on GeoIP and link rotation would be redundant between the two products. WP Guardian is a CPA gateway for getting people to fill out CPA offers to get content on your blog. Referer Guardian is a traffic cloaking tool to change the referer of your outbound traffic to look as if it is coming from another site you control.

We've verified during testing that Referer Guardian will work wonderfully as the source for an iframe in almost every browser. We even tested with CakeSlice. We've verified that as long as the user has Javascript installed and operational, Ref Guardian will work. We even tested it on really old browsers like IE 5.01 without having any issues.

Since starting testing, not once has the real source of the click leaked. We here at blackhatzen have to apologize. Our home state of Pennsylvania got rocked by some serious storms this evening. Rocked so hard, in fact, that we lost power here at blackhatzen manor until just before 4:30AM. Obviously, we didn't launch on time, and that sucks, but chaos will be chaos and over the years we've learned to embrace this sort of thing as a sign that we are indeed still living in a universe that is, for the most part, completely out of our control. Either that or we just have really bad luck and need to buy a back-up generator ... or move back into civilization where we can get 3G reception without having to scale mountains... whatever.

The long and tall of it is that we're going to launch Referer Guardian at 2PM EST today. Fifteen hours later than we anticipated, but we need to get some sleep and no one likes reading email early in the morning anyway.
