Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
...not to mention that they timed it perfectly to coincide with the release of Modern Warfare 2, no?.
Anywhere between an estimated 600,000 and 1 million players who use Microsoft's Xbox Live gaming service will be cut off from the service because they have modified their game consoles or played games that were illegally downloaded from file-sharing sites, according to the company.
"All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live," Microsoft said in a statement Wednesday.

It will when you're limited to single player and DVDs on your TV.

EDIT:
That's really funny, considering the fact that Bill Gates stole:
- DOS from that little programmer
- GUI from Apple
- Icon concept from Apple
- Mouse concept from Xerox.

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.

(you will probably only know what i mean if you have a modded console lol)

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
They do this every year. Early November. This one is just a lot bigger because of Modern Warfare 2.
It's going to come to the point of where Xbox 1 came to, modded Xbox = offline only.
But at this point it's just fine to mod another one, for now, they're just waves. After the ban wave has passed you can go ahead and mod a new one.
This all happened 7 days ago, at this point it's old news.

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
One question about the xbox: When you mod it, can you save games directly on your harddrive? Or do you have to put a iso on a hd-dvd ?
..and If I'm right, this can't be done with the PS3?
Not sure what to buy.
The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones.

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
I have not been online since Microsoft dropped the ban hammer. Hopefully, this will die down soon and I get back to kicking peoples a**ess in Madden. For now, I will wait and see what happens.

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
Yeah, my xbox got banned earlier this year and I must say THIS REALLY REALLY BLOWS, nothing to do with this junk anymore. I think im going to go over to PS3, although I was a big fan of xbox and xbox 360 (owned both of them). The reason is - xbox has some stupid paid xbox live, which blows ass, its also not supported in our country so im always breaking tos when I register to anothers country hotel address. PS3 has free live and now im making enough money to buy those games, besides if you buy a game not download it from the web, then you will stick playing it through.
Anyways, xbox has lost its glory...

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
if you have a modded box, you are going to get banned before the year is over. They are doing the mass ban in daily waves so customer services lines are not flooded with phone calls. Microsoft is able to detect if you have modified your drive with the update on October 28th. You might not be banned at the moment, but if you updated your console in the past couple weeks it's going to happen sooner or later sadly. Good news is there is a new FW on the way, and microsoft won't be able to detect that you have modified your drive. Just have to wait for c4eva to release it.....

Hate to bring it to your attention but you'll still be banned. What Microsoft does is blacklists your console serial on their servers, if you box comes online it will auto-ban you instantly. So no matter when/where you enter live you'll still be banned.
If anyone has questions about recent bans or other Xbox related info I'd advise you to check:

Also, there will be a new iXtreame coming out, I guess it's practically the same firmware as what is programmed into the drives by MS. So, that does give some hope!

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
Well, my friend and I just found a way to unban a banned xbox, with video proof and everything. So this may not be the case.

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
They do this before the bigger game launches. I remember when Halo 3 came out, it was the first big banning on the 360, at least, the first that I remember.

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
I modded my original xbox so that I could rip games and save them onto the hard drive (also put in a bigger HD). It was great. With XBMC I had all these ripped games, emulators and the ability to play back just about any kind of media that wasn't HD.
The modchip I used had a feature that let me use the "stock" bios/firmware or the modded one. Obviously if I wanted to play on XBL I would start my xbox with the stock bios and I never had any ban issues.
I never looked into modding my 360 because I really don't play it as much, but I would imagine you could do something similar.

That is a dumbass comment. I don't have a problem with people downloading games or whatever, but I do have a problem when people make these retarded "I'm entitled to whatever I want" justifications to make it seem like their choice to pirate is somehow acceptable.
You know damn well you don't need to be rich to pay for a game...and if your money is so tight that you can't afford a game, should you really be sitting around playing games in the first place? Maybe you should be working and making more money. You know about BHW and you have a computer...you can make at least $100 per day with the information on here even if you are of lesser intelligence than the average person.

Everyone torrents. Simple as that. If you know someone who knows what torrenting is and chooses not to do it, you know an idiot.

I am not a big fan of Xbox360 (but I do have it)
I thought there are mod chips that allow you to turn it 'on/off'?
Online play - turn it off
Offline play - turn it on
I thought its a pretty interesting concept. But yeah, dont know much about it

Re: Microsoft Banning One Million Xbox Live Accounts/Consoles.
Heh I wasn't aware so many people had modded their xboxes. I never touched mine, probably because I rarely use it anymore and when I did use it it broke too often. Ive had like 3 of them now. Even if I had one that could get banned I'd rather go get another one considering they are like $100 new now, than actually play the dumb games for my ps3. Only have it for a blu-ray player.
