    Default Hiding whois info

I am not sure if this belongs here or not, but this is kind of blackhat, or at leasst for my purposes.

I have a few domains in my possession and I would like to hide the whois information from the public. Now I know that one of the options is to buy the WhoisGuard/Proxy for each domain, but that is way too expensive.

What would you guys recommend to hide the whois information from the public?

Well the thing is I plan on having quite a few domain names and I want to interlink them hence I do not want them to all have the same whois info, even if it is fake. Am I able to assign whois information for each and every domain seperately?

    1. Do a .com domain availability search for a professional sounding privacy-type site domain name i.e. yourprivacysite.com, domainprivacy.com...you get the idea. DO NOT REGISTER IT YET, just find one that's available and write it down.

    2. Go to your registrar of choice (I use Godaddy, but any will work) and creat a new account...an account for your new privacy protection company.

In this new account, use your real information but add a couple pieces to it.

Put a title in there somewhere or just tack it on the end of your name, Jim Smith, Compliance Officer/President/Account Manager...

Add a business name (godaddy has a spot for it) in the profile as well, using the domain above. DomainPrivacy.com, etc.

For the address, if you want, get yourself a p.o. box

In the contact email field, use a "professional" email address from your, soon to be, new privacy domain. Something like accountmanager@yourprivacysite or administration@...

    3. Now it's time to go and register your domain name you wrote down earlier. MAKE SURE to register it under your new account.

    4. Grab a hosting template from oswd.org or wherever and tweak the index page. You don't need to go crazy here, you just want a good looking landing page. Just add some text to the effect of "Sorry, due to legal litigation issues, we are no longer accepting new clients. If you need to reach us, contact your account manager or email us at legal@yoursite.com

    5. Upload your files to your new domain

    6. Don't forget to add the correct email accounts you set up with the registrar and put on the site template. You do need them to be able to reach you in case of an issue.

Now, you can register all your new domains under this new account and you can even move your old domains under this account too (at least with Godaddy). If anyone does a whois search on any of your domains, they see a professional sounding whois competitor as the registrant and move on. In the even they do some poking around, they come across a good looking website confirming that you're just using a privacy service.

It will only save you a couple bucks per domain/year but if you have a lot of domains it adds up and you won't have to debate which sites to pay for privacy and which ones to roll the dice with. Just register all your new domains under the new account and move your old ones over.

Thanks man that is a good idea. The problem is that the domain is locked for 90 days so I won't be able to really transfer it until that time. Any other solutions?

Thumbs down Re: Hiding whois info

alright, I will let you in on a few secrets.. many are some that blackhatters don't know. These are us tips and may not work internationally. For domain names, fake info works well if you did the cya. first is a fake email... no probs there. Next, the phone that you use should be disconnected. I am lucky and have a list of three numbers that just ring forever with no answer. I have used them for years. Now comes the most interesting tip. Mailboxes.... all bher's need mail now don't they? I use the following. Find a place nearby that is country... like dirt roads type country. No matter where you live, this is like an hour away by car, if that. Now drive around randomly and look for a group of mailboxes. Many places have them grouped by the road for trailerparks, etc... Pick your location. Note that some even have the extra place for another mailbox! make a note of the ending number (the highest number on the mailboxes) Now that you have your location, just run by wal-mart, home depot or lowes. Buy a stand (if needed), double sided sticky tape, a mailbox and some stick on numbers. Now pre-assemble the whole thing. I prefer sticky tape to mount it to the post as its faster. Now add two to the highest number mailbox and post those numbers on it. I also put the street name. Drop by at night and either stick it firmly in the ground or attach it to an existing post. Wait 1 week, come back, the post office will leave a card in the box for a new address. Grab it, fill it out with your new identity and leave it back in the box. Now you have a black-hat mailbox for less than 30 dollars and two hours work. It's much cheaper than renting any and you don't have to worry about losing your mail due to forwarding, etc if you try to snatch one from, say a foreclosure or unoccupied home. Best of all, no id was used in the creation of your mailbox, so it truly is anonymous. Your blackhat mailbox will be good for years to come. Note: don't use UPS or FEDEX!

Couldn't you transfer the domain to another hosting account that you have your real information on and then sell it from there? Just curious

Many companies like hostgator will (for a price) hide all of your info. I guess I would not say that they "hide" it, but they make it anonymous. I do have some domains registered under some ridiculous shit that godaddy approved, but once I found that I can just annonymize my info, I just started doing that.
