1. Do a .com domain availability search for a professional sounding privacy-type site domain name i.e. yourprivacysite.com, domainprivacy.com...you get the idea. DO NOT REGISTER IT YET, just find one that's available and write it down.
2. Go to your registrar of choice (I use Godaddy, but any will work) and creat a new account...an account for your new privacy protection company.
In this new account, use your real information but add a couple pieces to it.
Put a title in there somewhere or just tack it on the end of your name, Jim Smith, Compliance Officer/President/Account Manager...
Add a business name (godaddy has a spot for it) in the profile as well, using the domain above. DomainPrivacy.com, etc.
For the address, if you want, get yourself a p.o. box
In the contact email field, use a "professional" email address from your, soon to be, new privacy domain. Something like accountmanager@yourprivacysite or administration@...
3. Now it's time to go and register your domain name you wrote down earlier. MAKE SURE to register it under your new account.
4. Grab a hosting template from oswd.org or wherever and tweak the index page. You don't need to go crazy here, you just want a good looking landing page. Just add some text to the effect of "Sorry, due to legal litigation issues, we are no longer accepting new clients. If you need to reach us, contact your account manager or email us at
legal@yoursite.com
5. Upload your files to your new domain
6. Don't forget to add the correct email accounts you set up with the registrar and put on the site template. You do need them to be able to reach you in case of an issue.
Now, you can register all your new domains under this new account and you can even move your old domains under this account too (at least with Godaddy). If anyone does a whois search on any of your domains, they see a professional sounding whois competitor as the registrant and move on. In the even they do some poking around, they come across a good looking website confirming that you're just using a privacy service.
It will only save you a couple bucks per domain/year but if you have a lot of domains it adds up and you won't have to debate which sites to pay for privacy and which ones to roll the dice with. Just register all your new domains under the new account and move your old ones over.
