I just want to know if let's say I am on a page and i type the URI of a new website in the address bar do they get the referer?
I am asking this since i read somewere that GA can trace if the referer is google even if the URI was typed in
I don't know (technically they shouldn't "NOT can't" do it), but if you want to be make sure it doesn't happen disable Google Toolbar's usage statistics sharing: Settings --> Option --> More tab --> Help Google Improve the Toolbar --> Uncheck "Send usage statistics to Google"
I think you are right sehs33, I have just read google's toolbar privacy policy and it clearly states that it grabs the current url for PR determination and it can use that info for other services as well, even third party.
Certain optional Toolbar features operate by sending Google the addresses or other information about sites when you visit them
