Hi All
i am getting one error when i try to verify my website. Following is the error

We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 500 (Internal server error) in the header.

The file exist on the server, even the dynamic link that google generates is working all file. I tried to access that file and it opened.

I try to verify my another domain and uploaded google verification file on my hosting but when i try to access that file. Then it didnt open.

Is it my hosting or google is acting bad ???

I just had this problem today but I fixed it by using a plug in.
Are you using Wordpress?

You can also try by yourself, which http status code your 404 page gets back. Just enter an not existing url and check this with http status checker tools. There you can see the status code. The error you describe can come from an wrong .htaccess file, wrong error page setup or simply if your webhost has an error. Without more details, no one here can help you, as the guys before me told you...

I had that issue, waited a few days and tired again and it worked fine without changing anything, I believe it's something to do with googles server causing a minor error.

Just change the method on 'Meta tag'. I was never ever did verification with HTML file.

There is something wrong with big g, I'm having the same problem, I think they will solve this soon. They are upgrading many things right now.

Just hold on or use the meta verification

Sorry i couldn't post the URL becoz forum rules does not allow to post URLS. But i will try

my website is sitecounters*info please replace * with (.)

no i am not on free hosting.

It was working all fine from last 1 year and now i just logged in and checked and it
said NOT VERIFIED

If you guys need more information do let me know
