Big drop in serps

This is concerning a website with good content published. The website Is around 8 months old and I started building links slowly around 6-8 weeks ago.

it has 5 pbns pointing at it and a blast of social signals.

around 3 days ago practically all the main type keywords dropped 30-90 places.

with the site having barley any links pointed at it what do you think the problem could be?

Maybe it's a toxic pbn?

One of my pbns was hacked last week and I have had to restore it. Maybe it was that?

Should I just wait this one out and see what happens?

For the moment don't panic, just leave it be and hopefully it will pop back up in a few weeks.

If after a month you're still -90 positions then it's time to remove the links and disavow them.

Don't panic just yet though, whatever has happened you can fix it!
 
Is your site in webmaster tools? They would send a message there if you got an actual penalty.

You say the main KWs dropped 30-90 places, but where were they ranked prior to the drop?

Are the 5 PBNs all separated from each other without footprints?
 
To answer a number of questions.

This is not registered in webmasters tools. This is a website that i am going to take seriously so should i add it to webmasters? I've never done this before.

All the keywords where positioned between say 40-100. I did have 1 very long tail one at around 18.

PBNs have no footprints as far as i am aware.

I have never used or heard of this disavow before. Does this mean if i did add a toxic PBN just killing the anchors is not enough? I must also disavow them?

That's good, don't add it in there yet. The people who are telling you to check WMT are the same freaks who post meaningless drivel on the official Google forums!

What you're doing is BH SEO, keeping any helpful data from Google is par for the course. That should extend to using hotmail as opposed to GMail too if you're ordering stuff from the BHW marketplace.

The disavow tool is part of Google WMT.

At the moment, I wouldn't worry too much about WMT or disavow. Like I said, just wait for a month and see how things pan out. You could very well pop back in a few weeks even higher than before, a perfectly normal part of the SEO game.

If after a month you see nothing happening, then start reading up about WMT and disavow - until then just sit tight. Whilst you're waiting you can always check things like anchor text diversity and stuff like that plus if you've bought a pbn do some research and see if that vendor has run into trouble with Google and gotten banned. Don't make any knee jerk changes, information and research is your best bet to figure out what, if anything is going on.

Check each of your PBN domain with wayback machine and hosterstats, if it was used by outlet or pharma...

Yeah i thought that WMT was not the best idea. Should i fire a few more PBNs at this in the mean time?

GWT is absolutely fine as long as you only use 1 website per 1 account. GWT only gives you data that Google already has about your website, the only way it gets more is if you use Google Chrome or add more than one website to a single Google account and let Google you own both of them.

It's also where Google will directly tell you if your website has been penalized.

But it just sounds like your website is just bouncing around. Drop from 30-100 in serps to 60-140 in serps isn't necessarily a penalty, it's just the Google dance for a newer website.

Again though, did you check to see the history of the websites you are using for your PBN to see if they have been used for spam before?

if you think they are toxic...then remove them and move on!

This. There is absolutely nothing wrong with submitting your website to GWT, as long as you keep it to 1 website per account. Don't believe all the tinfoil hattery being thrown around on this forum.

Submitting the site to GWT will let you know within 1-2 days whether there was a manual penalty applied to your site, which based on your description, would be my guess. This is better than sitting around for 1 month, wasting time, as some people are suggesting.
 
OP, are you kidding? The odds of a mere six PBN links causing your site to go to shit are fairly low.

Take a look at all your links you've built.

I'm guessing many of them have probably become deindexed. If this is the case you haven't been "hit" by Google per se, you have essentially just lost some links. In which case all you have to do is BUILD MORE quality links to replace the lost ones. You would have to do any link replacing relatively slowly, of course. But this has happened to me and I was able to regain everything within two months or so.
 
So the best thing I can do is create a GWT and add this domain in question?

should I create a brand new Windows user on my PC and use a different IP address?

any other ways to cover my tracks?

i just need a brand new gmail account for this right?
 
Yes, you should use a different IP. If you have a VPN or anon proxy it will do the trick.
Use a fresh install of browser with clear cookies.
Don't use a brand new Windows user, use a virtual machine if you know how to. Otherwise, just make sure you have a new IP and fresh clean browser.

Never pollute your main user profile (your real IP, Gmail, Chrome if you use it) with the setup above. Separate your identities and you prevent Google connecting your websites together.
