Any hope Google will listen to my reconsideration request? Do others ever have success?

Of course they gave no indication WHAT links were the damn issue.

Also, any advice on HOW TO START OVER? Maybe with a new domain and move the content over and shut down the old dead sites?

Have you checked your google webmasters tools? If you know what you did wrong, then try to undo it. Also take a chance to ask google for a reconsideration. Sometimes you'd get lucky.

Sure, that's where I got the notice. I've checked. One site had some funny links, 10,000 from one weird site, so I told Google about that.

But I have no idea how to disavow those links, let alone get them all. No help from Google there.

So, I've asked, who knows. I think a competitor probably sent me some bad links. Google doesn't know what the heck they're doing, since anyone can Neg SEO someone and THEY get hammered, not the jerk who did it.

Get an ahrefs report, get all the bad links and submit them via the Google disavow tool.

Watch Matt Cutts' video about manual penalties, he explains exactly what a good reconsideration request consists of. It's a manual process so stay calm and extremely polite.

They will listen, unless you have a pure spam penalty.
1.Start by manually going to each site and see if it looks ok or not, mark the bad ones.
2.Start contacting the bad links and make print screens for each email/contact form.
3.Make a disavow file and upload it.
4.Send 2 emails each, upload all the photos in G Drive and your Excel link profile in which you've marked the bad links and draft a reconsideration request, wait 2-3 weeks.

It takes some time, but if the site is worth it go for it, if not deindex it and start a new project with the same content and no links.
Gl & Hf :)

sad to hear that. is your site in a very competitive niche \ was it ranking before?

It might be the same manual action I got - Thin Content or No added value.
Even though my site is 95% unique and does not have any spam links or spun articles.
What I will do is to de-index the whole site, get a new domain, move the content to the new domain and redirect the other one to the new (unpenalized) domain.

Conduct link audit and remove all bad backlinks and then send a reconsideration request. May be if you are lucky you will get it removed or else just move on to another domain.

Make sure you fix EVERYTHING BEFORE you submit your reconsideration request. If you submit it and there's still some dodge activity going on, forget about getting a 2nd chance.

I got manual penalty today also for thin content... Seems they are doing some mass checking..

No hope man, I did a lot of manual work for 10 of my websites and reconsideration are not successful. Better to 301 to new domain, sometimes it works sometimes not.

Most people don't know how to clean up links. For manual action, you cannot just disavow. You have to make an effort to clean up the spam you did, document the process, and disavow what can't be removed. It's a long tedious job and most people are clueless. Unnatural links are any link you put somewhere including the so-called "penguin safe" backlink crap promotions BHW keeps sending to my email.

Then, people think that a site should pop back to position 1 after a successful reconsideration request. It doesn't work that way. You were artificially ranking from the spam you created, which is why you got manual action. So, when you remove all the links and disavow the rest, you are now ranking where you're supposed to and let's face it, most people here have crap sites and don't deserve to rank anywhere.

unless your site is estabilished and highly worthy, just move along. the reconsideration process is damn tedious and they'll act like messed up attorney.

In short, yes a reconsideration request can get your penalty lifted. However, in terms of what to expect, refer to archon10's post.

I believe you need to show you've emailed the webmasters asking to take the links down (and some actually do take the links down if you email them, they don't want to be on some disavow list if it's a legit site that forgot comments enabled at some point) or tried to reach them otherwise. If that fails, you move on to disavowing.

Reconsideration request will screw your website permanently.

Nope. I had to redo mine 5 times. The last time I hired people who manually removed alot of the links. The penalty got lifted and my site went back to number one where it has been for over a year without building a single link.

This is right. I hired Link Delete to do all of this. It was cheap and they manually removed the toxic links. My penalty got removed. If you want your site back I would use Link Delete. Can't say enough about them.

Just move on, new site on aged domain (will help little with rankings) and put new content on it. Do not bother with reconsideration request.
