I still don't understand how people can get away with it. Isn't it something that moderators enforce?

We all know the definition of Blackhat, and most know the definition of White Hat .. So why do all these blackhat services get away with calling them white hat? Even the most well known service providers are guilty of it.

I can't count on 2 hands the amount of times I have clicked a 'Completely White Hat Links' bla bla bla thread, just to see more directory submissions, web 2.0 posts, PBN links and all the other blackhat techniques.

'Manually Built' does not make a service white hat, no matter how you word it.

Am I just nit picking, or does anyone else think they shouldn't be allowed to advertise as white hat, when they clearly aren't?

True. I also hate people that sell PBN links in public. Do they not know what the P stands for? as soon as you start selling blogs posts they are no longer private!

The truth is there is NO whitehat service. Every single service out there is blackhat by definition, no exceptions! By whitehat, most of the times service providers mean they build HQ links (at least that's how I get it) and no crappy ones. But if you want a whitehat service, it simply does not exist.

deancow, thank you for explaining white hat to those of us who have ONLY been here for years. I'm glad we can finally get this under control. too many people are ignorant, and thank God that you're here to save us from our own stupidity.

love dizz

Why even use the terms black hat or white hat? It's just SEO, no?

SEO is when you build a couple of links manually per day.
Black Hat SEO is when you build a lot of links, using tools, spun content, create web2.0 or PBN, using redirects or any other "tricky" technics.
White Hat SEO is when you do only onsite-SEO and prey to your God, asking to improve the rankings.

:)

Well, there are a few whitehat seo agencys. They are very expensive and most of them do "real" content marketing.
For example i read about an online shop. They create very indepth guides around their products which then get linked. Yes its possible. Yes its hard work.
But you can rank a shop without seo. Also its possible to create a brand without building links you know. ;)

Also one of the best online marketing guys from germany showcased how he did rank a 1 page website in the insurance niche on the first spot.

Can you provide a link for that case study? thank you

There is no such thing as WHITE HAT SEO, any link that is made by the intention of increasing a webpage ranking in google (search engine) is BLACK HAT. That is what google guidelines says, not me.

Yes Public or Private, common sense tells you it is a Public Blog Network. Common sense tells you, you can't buy "private". Common sense tells you if you want a Private Blog Network, you build it yourself and keep it private.

There is no such thing as Whitehat SEO it is a myth. When you manipulate search engine results in any way you are breaking Google's TOS(Terms Of Service) this is Google's way of saying Google wants Adwords money.Selling PBN links to the public is dangerous Google can find the network and destroy it.It is better to build your own PBN and keep it secret.

The color doesn't matter as long as it's not rainbow color, then we can call it "gay hat".

Of course there is whitehat seo. There is no whitehat Linkbuilding though... What do you think is public relations? You can get links through this which is totaly whitehat. (publishing press releases on high PR websites is NOT public relations work by the way and NOT whitehat) ;)

Content marketing...Brand Building...Advertising...all ways to generate backlinks the whitehat way...

The myth is that great content automaticly ranks...People somehow have to find it. But you can do this for example by facebook advertising & social and so on...which is totaly fine by goole. You can even buy articles on high traffic pages with no follow link to make your content/website known to people who eventually link to you.

Agreed, all link building to Google is blackhat. End of discussion. There IS no whitehat link building. There IS no whitehat external SEO essentially to Google.

Going back to the history of the terms though they USED TO actually mean something. Blackhat used to refer only to things that were outright deceitful, things such as click-jacking, cloaking, injecting links... stuff that was barely legal. While white hat referred to traditional link building tactics that we today NOW call blackhat.

But today nobody has any idea what the hell the terms mean. Google and people trying to use the terms as marketing ploys have ruined the meanings.
