Was thinking about this... Does the mobile update severely affect the juice passed from your backlinks if they're not on mobile responsive platforms?

Do our PBN links and such lose all value? Hmmm.

Well how is the answer no? As if only our "money" sites are being affected? But all other sites that aren't in responsive design, don't receive the same penalty or demotion that our money sites would be affected by?

Does it really matter? Being on page 6 with your PBN or page 30?
 
I don't see why it would devalue inbound links.

The idea is that mobile-friendly websites (ideally your own) are displayed to mobile users.
 
there's going to be the big update, the big rollback, and so on.

OP asked a legitimate question, which could even be a start of an intelligent discussion. I don't see why every question about algo updates is replied with "SEO is dead." It sounds so corny, trying to look in-the-know by being sarcastic. Maybe you're just riding the bandwagon without even knowing what you're talking about? :)

To OP. I don't think that this particular update targets the effectiveness of links pointing to your site, but rather the mobile friendliness of it. So it's more of an on-page SEO issue I think. Of course, I'm no expert on the subject but to answer you're question, no the juice passed is not affected.
 
The update will not depend on backlink metrics.
But there should be a Penguin update following this one.. Just a guess though..
 
I think you guys misunderstand what I'm saying here.

Imagine it like this; Your moneysite is a PR 6 that with not only your own monetized strategy, but utilizing say SAPE or something else, and selling link space on your site.

Your site is NOT a mobile platform.

Your site gets docked / devalued for whatever metrics google implements because it's not mobile friendly.

Your site, in google's eyes is worth less. You drop in the serps due to the lesser value.

Those links pointing out from your site are worth less to other sites you link to now.

If this was the case, why wouldn't it apply to your tiers and other backlinks? PBN links, etc.



It goes hand in hand, that if google devalues a site for whatever variable they are taking into consideration, that the link juice from that site is worth something less.
 
This is a very good question. Unfortunately it is only G that can answer it. I would be inclined to say yes, it will have an affect.

There was no update yet. All of us just guessing whats GOING to happen. Intelligent discussion starts after the mobile algo rolled out. Thats when people have REAL data in their hands and thats the exact moment you looking for.
You can write whatever you want. It could be right or wrong. Everyone who reading this thread can choose the best answer which looks logical for her/him but right now its just GUESSING.

I hope you understand now why "every question about algo updates is replied with "SEO is dead."

Yes, there was no update yet. Should that limit when we'll start asking intelligent questions? I don't think so. It's fun to craft theories and see if our predictions are correct. lol.

I do agree with this though: you can write whatever you want. We're entitled to our own opinions, but it just sucks to see someone asking a legit question and get replied with stupid ass comments.

According to moz mobile algo will be separate from the desktop algo so if Google does devalue links from your site, it would only affect other sites' mobile rankings. All speculation though, as pointed above. You should read this post if you're really interested in mobile algo:

I mean in my opinion it will. Imagine if a site get a poor SERP, then you have backlinks, it would lower the quality of your backlinks to your site.
 
may is usually a penguin update month, so first the mobile, 2 weeks of what the hell is going on, followed by penguin and let's break for summer vacation.
 
I would say that mobile update is going to affect backlinks, if the linking site itself will be affected. And as far as I understand the update will not only affect mobile rankings, it will affect the sites quality score as a whole. But we'll see soon enough.

This is what I was meaning. So the quality of the site linking to your money site is affected most likely.

In turn, we need to consider our backlinks more carefully.
