Your great for the obvious.LOL! Thanks for that. The "Free Edu link has been over used and as a result, " Registration has been disabled." Also the link has changed. Look under WP 1.5.1 and you can create a blog, but not now.

However, I do appreciate you sharing your knowledge in obtaining edu and gov links. mil links, that's cool. I should have thought of this one. I have an in on this one and so does anyone else who can offer services to military personnel. I like that one. Who cares about PR. Its all about SERPs and traffic. I had an absolutely dead PR6 site generating me $0 until I sold it to some PR crazy dude. On the other hand I had a PR0 that generated over 1 million monthly uniques and tons of cash.

Great post, even for people in the "know" of backlinks. To the above post "backlinks are not weighed as heavily anymore." I don't find that to be true. Think about it, the bots would have to know how to seperate good content that is useful, from other content that is not. That is a lot harder to detect and easier to spam than links are. I do SEO and still believe "link popularity is the single most important factor is SE rankings on Google. Not so much for Y and Live, but still probably the most important factor.
Also you do NOT need 1k backlinks to get good rankings, it is better to have 100 true quality links than 1k spammy links with no relevancy. Relevancy is key, more so than pagerank or anything else.
