Great post, even for people in the "know" of backlinks. To the above post "backlinks are not weighed as heavily anymore." I don't find that to be true. Think about it, the bots would have to know how to seperate good content that is useful, from other content that is not. That is a lot harder to detect and easier to spam than links are. I do
SEO and still believe "link popularity is the single most important factor is SE rankings on Google. Not so much for Y and Live, but still probably the most important factor.
Also you do NOT need 1k backlinks to get good rankings, it is better to have 100 true quality links than 1k spammy links with no relevancy. Relevancy is key, more so than pagerank or anything else.
