Default Hiding links by making them the same color as the background

My friend has a website with a PR of 3. I'm going to pay him some money to put 2 links on his homepage. The links have nothing to do with his website, so I'm thinking of asking him to just put them in the footer and making them the same color as the footer background so users can't see them. Is this a smart idea?

No, Google will eventually find that link and slap you hard. I've never heard of such invisible links working tbh..

it is wayy too easy for google to detect that.

there's a few other tricks that can be used to hide your link, but in your case, why even go there?

And footer links aren't the best either.. get your link on a sidebar or something on a page with high PR on his site. Don't use "sitewide" links.

If you have a link on a page, google will not do anything, but instead Crawlers will catch it :P

This strategy which you said is not effective really because it is on page, colors dont matter here.

Hiding the links is a really bad idea and can get you a nice penalty and a holiday in the sandbox.

Absolutely NO! It is not recommended, no more. You could get easily penalized so - better find an other safe way to promote your links.

    Hidden link

Dont seem like a good idea?

anyway its for linkjuice sinces is unrelevant, so put your URL in footer and hide it behind like "Powered by" or "Design by"

LOL, Googlebot doesnt have human eyes, it reads code so it can see everything. Hiding links with background color is only good when you are trying to hide some shameful paid links in your article, because you don't want your readers to think about you as a sellout.

Anyways, try to negotiate some non-site-wide place (sidebar that doesnt repeat, homepage text, PR article) and wrap the link with some contextual text that could connect the theme of his and your site together.

I'm not hiding it from Google I'm hiding it from his website viewers so they don't go to a video game website and say "Hey by the way, why do you have a random link for a plumber on your website?"

In that case you're halfway there. Just try to find a nice location for that link that isn't site-wide (repeating itself throughout the entire site) and eventually give it some contextual content around it, so it will be fine with a Google. For example if there's some online game/game review about game that involves plumbing, just put it there and adjust the text a bit. E.g. "Did you know that Super Mario Was formerly a plumber?"

The search engines will see your links as soon as the site is crawled.

It's not like the spiders visually scan your pages, they go through the source code and check a lot of your coding.

I would highly recommend not making your links the same color as the background.

Have fun getting sandboxed if you hide your links. See what I did there? lol

Well if you just wanted a link you could always add a guest post. It won't be on the page with the actual page rank but better than nothing and potentially damaging your friends site.

Well this used to work in the Past, But not anymore.
If you want a general Idea, ask your friend to place that link in the Home Page Post and not anywhere in the footer.
This way you could be benefited and no need to worry about the Google.

Wow looks like nobody read my first post. I WANT Google to see my links. I want the links hidden from viewers for my friend's sake because they are totally unrelated and we both don't want his viewers to wonder why there are random unrelated links on his page.

I then corrected someone in post 13 explaining this exactly and yet there are still people responding with the same thing...Please read posts thoroughly.

OP I get what you're saying. Of course you want Google to see the link so they can count it as a link pointing to your website. You don't want your friend visitors to see it because it's totally unrelated to the website. My opinion is that if you need to hide a link from a certain website visitors, then maybe that link should not be created in the first place. On the other hand, I have seen some high ranking pages with transparent links pointing back to it.

Doesn't matter, making links or stuffing keywords as the same color as the background will get you penalized, doesn't matter what your "intentions" are, you'll get penalized hard and he may as well. This worked maybe in 2002.

I'm sure the visitors won't be butt-hurt over a link that's unrelated to his site is sitting in a sidebar or elsewhere on his website.

Sometimes you just can't help a person who is reaching out....

Go for it, make your links the same color as the background because they're unrelated to your friends website that he's going to put them on.

I wish you the best of luck.

Please read around the forum and continue to not take advice from people who know what they're talking about.
