I realize that (largely) PTC traffic is very untargeted and most members aren't even looking at the site being shown to them, but I'm curious if there are any applicable uses for PTC traffic. I'd be interested in hearing experiences from those of you who have bought this kind of traffic in the past, both positive (how did your sites benefit) and negatives (what were the consequences).

  1. How does a PTC traffic flood affect SERP rank? Does Google recognize this traffic as garbage and mark your site with a penalty, or can the traffic actually be used to climb the search engines?
  2. How do advertisers respond to this kind of traffic? Do accounts automatically trigger a freeze/investigation? If so, is there any way you could claim that someone else used the traffic to hurt your site? Is attacking someone's site this way considered illegal?
  3. Can this kind of traffic be used to increase views to statistic tracking sites (YouTube, Squidoo, etc.) if it doesn't violate the ToS?

I think it can just help you rank in Alexa!

Yes, these sites get you views on youtube. Also, back in the day, when I`ve started earning 0.01$ per click or sumthing like that, I had to look at the image for some seconds, I ended up visiting some sites that were worth visiting, even bought some products. So don`t expect a lot of conversion, but some folks will come to your website again if it brings some quality.

Okay, what about the negatives (other than wasting your money)? Can sending this traffic to a competitor's site hurt their rank or accounts in some way, and would it be illegal?

1)It won't help your ranking in any way. I don't think that google penalty every site that gets such kid of traffic. But it's def a 10000% garbage traffic. If ur aim is to climb at serp results - forget it.

2)Advertisers don't like such type of traffic. It's often used to fool advertisers and cheat them. Sometimes it can lead to ur acc getting banned. (100% true about adsense, had some examples. But that doesn't mean that very site that get such traffic gets banned. But there is a chance.)

3)Yes it can. Though there are much easier ways.

Still hoping for some feedback about using this traffic to hurt competition.. anyone?

You won't be able to seriously hurt anyone just by sending them some "bad" traffic.
You need to be a bit smarter.
