Ideally, what you want are high PR, editorially granted, niche-related, in-content links. Since these are the coelacanth of backlinks, order of importance is (generally speaking) as follows: 1.) High PR (still) --> 2.) Relevant, niche-related --> 3.) in-content links comprised of unique copy (not "Copyscape passed"), that have been editorially granted by the site owner.
If you can get all of those in one, understand your niche's link graph, and how your competitors did what they did, you're on the bullet train to #1.
Best,

High PR links.
I cannot emphasize this enough. No matter what anyone tells you, it's basically about PR.

Depends on your goals, if you need long term rankings then go for niche relevant links, but if you need quick rankings but not for 1 year+ then go for just high pr backlinks.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
Relate niche backlink its for your serp, Hight PR site backlink for encrease your pagerank, relate niche site with hight pr backlink is much better, just combine them both...

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
The weight and value of niche related backlinks are more than high pr backlinks, because they will increase your SERP instantly generate decent amount of traffic as well.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
High PA/DA related niche backlinks are the best but hard to find for non-overused niches. In my opinion PA/DA > PR; I'd choose a PR1 with DA 39 over a PR4 with DA 20. Or if you have the money build a private niche related blog network and backlink it, best links you can have.

I would choose the niche related but really depends if the page has backlinks.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
I'd go with niche related links if I were you - I've been penalized before for having links from "high" pr sites that weren't niche related. If it was a site you really cared about, I'd also study the content and S.E.O strategy of the sites you want to link to yours.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
High PR and a couple niche realated ones.
If I could only get one or the other though I'd take PR anyday. You can always do forum sigs on niche related places to substitute (yes, still works)

Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
High pr with niche relevant anchor links will do very well.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
I would get niche relevant link only if source site is somewhat big, not just a couple of pages, and again, domain has some PR. It doesn't give much SERPs improvements, but a bit of traffic. Niche relevant directories work the best for me.
And links from high PR pages to boost authority, PR and SERPs.

I hope this is not gonna work in long run. I surely doubt that google is gonna introduce some other update to kill the sites which have irrelevant backlinks. I would like to stick to niche backlinks thinking of long run. I am already hit by panda and dont wanna get hit again. Wanna keep this natural and ethical this time. Though they are low pr niche links but they have the impact on search results for sure.

i believe only niche related links are future and totally safe
i never use anything but related links and never had any problems

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
Niche related everytime, as people have said, it's safe long term.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
I'd go for the high PR one everytime.
Link diversity isn't just a wide amount of different links on different platforms, but also means your links need to be on different types of content. Having a few unrelated backlinks is completely natural. It only becomes a problem when unrelated backlinks form the basis of your link profile.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
Best link is the PR3 one, assuming the page the PR3 is coming from is your topic.
If not, the best use of your link is to have the PR3 link go to a tier1 that has proper content related to your niche, then have the link to your money site from that tier1.
If your basic question is whether the niche of their site has to match the theme of your site -- no. But the page you get the link from does.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
I disagree with some people here i bleive that niche related would be far greater for the long term as well they carry a lot of weight as opposed to links from sites that have nothing to do with anything the site is based around.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
IMO niche related on high pr links are good but if the niche related site is authority without a PR you can even have links on that too.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
I will pick niche related backlinks. In addition to serp inprovement they can drive you some targetted traffic also.

I'd take a non-related PR3 over a related PR0 any day of the week....

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
A lot of this advice is just guessing...no one knows what will happen in the long run...we never do
The one thing that has worked for a LONG time and continues to work? HIGH PR DF urls.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
I would try aiming for both but if I had to choose then I would go with HIGH PR any day.

Agree with all of the above. looking at all the latest Google changes, i try to completely avoid unrelated high PR links. even if they make the desired effect, the chances of future damage are way to high (unless it comes from really authoritative sources). Niche targeted backlinks, and i mean good contextual ones, are better for rankings, and also has the potential to send targeted traffic and help build the site's reputation. also i can't see how it can be harmfull in any way.
If you ever checked the PR of the websites that are ranking 1st page for your keyword you must have noticed that some of them are PR0, sometimes most of them, and that gives an idea how much PR is important for rankings. however if you'll check their backlinks to see where they're coming from you'll find niche targeted backlinks for all of them (checked that many times for many different kw's).
Of course if you can find some niche targeted that also have high PR/DA that would be the best, but if you have to choose- niche targeted ones would be the better choice.

Re: Niche Related backlinks or high pr?
Personally, i would suggest to go with Cheap HIGH PR Links. I don't rely on blog networks anymore, because they will eventually die out and i cant allow that for my link building. For example i can buy 50 x PR 1 links for like $25 which is cheap and in exchange you can get 25 strong links either at your money site or your unique tier 1. I usually order my high pr links from http://craigslistpvapostingservice.com/seo.html but there are other providers out there.
Remember, the key is to have unique content pointed to your money site. If you wish to have long lasting rankings that is

So is a backlinks from a domain with PR5 with no good backlinks worth more than a PR3 with more quality backlinks?

Well if the PR 5 domain has no good backlinks, it's probably like all the other auctioned shit people are buying and throwing blogs up on. Better to get a genuine PR 3 backlink then a PR 5 backlink (according to the toolbar) that has a Google internal PR of 0.
