Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
Cliffs are- its an aged domain, but relatively new (a few months)
only about 300 links before this (at rate of about 10/day)- I was trying to do relatively white hat SEO
I basically bought bought a fiver gig 200 manual links (not to be pinged)
instead got spammed with 5000 links
-now it's finding 200 new links a day for past few days-- and a massive # of single anchor phrases like "good" - and the keywords I gave him are also exploding out of proportion of other keywords too in my backlink profile (and so far only 500 of these nearly 6000 links have been found)
So again it appears- no varying anchor text - my site is being spammed for keywords I was hoping to rank for
The only upside might be that my site is an aged domain... Offering me some level of protection
But still is my site going to be slapped with penalties soon if these links keep pouring in? (I am assuming they'll keep pouring in at this rate for up to a month now that I see its nearly 6000 links
What should I do?
Is it a big deal?
If it is a big deal what can I do to stop it? Or what action can I take?

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
What kind of links are these? profile links? blog comments?
Well, if you see a drop in your rankings recently due to these links then try using the Google disavow tool which would help you in reporting the spammy links or else if you see improvement(might be possible), let them grow since they are doing only good.

They appear to all be blog comments

Did you noticed any change in your rankings?

Could always give the disavow tool a try or just report it in webmaster tools!
Other than that there aren't too many options :\

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
So far no significant effect on rankings- but I've only felt 10% of it so far so it will be a month or two in coming I suppose till I see full effects

Your site may or may not get penalised but what where you thinking off......building 10 manual links a day and then turning to fiverr. Are you saying the seller is still getting you new links or you are finding more links every time you check ? Ive seen some sites get away with what would be considered mass spam but the lack of variety in your anchor text is a problem.

So, there are actually two things which you can do.
Either wait for some time until you see some changes in rankings OR act now and submit all these links to the Google disavow tool.
If you wait some time, you might see some improvement(rare case but still possible) or drop in rankings.
And if you submit them all right now, you won't probably see any effect since Google won't count them anymore as your backlinks.

Its finding more links constantly - like I said he did about 6000 and so far it's found about 500
well if the seller had provided what I bought - which would have been about 200 links unpinged it should have been fine-
It was a good rated seller too, I mean it's basically a freak thing this happened to me
One idea is... I have some time now, to try to even out the keywords so it's not so polar, should I do anything?
or just let it go?
i really am worried about the polarity my keywords are going to see

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
Google disavow tool. Get your newest links out of google webmaster tools and disavow them as they come in.
If it were my site and it was an important money site, that's what I'd do. Negative seo can take a site out for a long time and sometimes permanently.

I do have a list of the 6k links but If I submit all these to google though, isn't it like an obvious- "hey, I was doing unnatural SEO - here's the list"
-I mean wouldn't it be better to wait, regardless of what happens, and when the damage is assessed I could pick out the majority and disavow them (thus making it look at least like I got bombed and searched through to find them to remove them)

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
Look for a start nobody does 200 manual links for $4 so if you are ever looking at a bargain like that agaiin...have a think about it. Fiverr has lots of cheap goodies but not the sort of tier 1 link buiding you send direct to your site. If you havent been affected just rough it out and see how you get on. Out of 6000 spammed links probably 90% of them will drop off within a few months. Dont use the google disavow tool you may as well throw your site in the bin. Just wait and see

Yes, the idea is pretty good as well. So, if you see some improvements, that would be great for you and if you don't, you can simply report and tell them that you saw drop in rankings and then saw these backlinks coming and reported them right away which might sound legit.

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
One note to add- they appear to be almost all nofollow links- so I may not get much ranking benefit- would that still leave me prone to being penalized thou? (By penguin?)

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
You could also make it worth for you.
Let the dude doing the SEO for you even though blog comments aren't that efficient. And vary your anchors profiles with natural ones.

Fiverr is teathered with gigs that some people has no right to be promoting. All they need is a graphic and a paragraph about what they HOPE to learn how to do.

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
got same problem,I can't find my site on google, but I ranked by buying HQ backlinks and social bookmarks,so that's why I can be penalized..So I found some backlinks(just adding in google my site adress) and find multiple backlinks from the same site and submited them to google disavow tool,if it won't help then I'll find my backlinks reports and submit them all to disavow tool

There's a huge debate going on whether nofollow links help or not but in my opinion, they do.
So, the best you could do is wait for the rankings to change and then report the links.
And about being penalized by penguin or panda, if you build all do-follow links, you will still be prone to being penalized since its not just do-follow or nofollow links factor which decides whether you get penalized or not.

Re: Was doing clean link building- then got link spammed by 6k links- am I screwed?
You have 2 options here:
1. Use Google Disavow tool - Get all newest links, and disavow them. Not guaranteed to work, no guarantee on time frame.
2. Build high quality WH links - NOT fiverr. No one will build good quality links for <$4. Invest some time and money, think about your site not only today but 2 years from now.
