As in what do most of the IMers do right now - Pinterest, Youtube, Twitter, building lists, something else???

From my own observations, link building took quite a bit of a dive, but more and more people are turning to YouTube for traffic. What do you spend your time working on the most?

I am sure it does, but I think that there is quite a bit of a learning curve (guessing here, never really gave it a try)

Yes, you are right. It is probably one of the more expensive methods to learn with the trial and error part

I dont think link building has taken a dive , its just the way people are building it. First of all you need to concentrate on building a really good site with good engaging content and build good quality links to rank the website and then when visitors come to your website make them go to your social page or newsletter so that you increase the value of your visitor.

Nice topic! Being new to IM, this info. is helpful because I kind of know where to begin. Somebody posted on another thread that people stating out on bhw are kind of like a kid in a candy store. There is so much info, so many suggestions...it's hard to say "I'm going to really push blogging, etc". This kind of post helps me because it's not too far off from what I was thinking, which means i'm learning, which makes me more confident. Please continue to post on this thread!

There has never been a time of more possibility. There are more platforms now than ever, ecommerce is more than legitimate now with so many new customers popping up each day, so pick any method and run with it. But, for the love of God, do work instead of copy/pasting methods, and you will not be making threads asking what to do because you'll see "oh hey, work gets results, and with these methods, the effectiveness of my work is force multiplied...who would have thought that putting integrity into something that's "easy" brings ridiculous rewards?"

I thought we did this kind of marketing to, you know, not run with the herd and do what everyone else thinks is hot? They come here to learn, so it's sort of imperative for us here to innovate, yes? yes.

Almost anything works if you are doing it the right way! It is up to you how do you work, implement the tactics and find your own twist. At the moment I concentrate on email marketing, but SEO, Youtube etc. works as good and can be of course linked with email marketing as well.

I notice nobody has mentioned mobile /sms. Is SMS going to die off because of black blasting and the carriers cracking down?

Selling "real looking" social media accounts and email marketing tools . Oh, mass video uploaders and video creation software.

But, seriously, social has been a huge traffic driving force in my latest projects outside of any google BS.

After SEO got in to black parts of universe for some time people shifted to other money making niches. But making money with other niches cannot be compared to how easy is SEO (build site, buy packages, hope for best). Thus people are coming back to get unique SEO services and invest money with reputable SEO providers.

Very interesting read, this gives me a better sense of direction as to what new platforms I'd like to dabble with, Thanks.

I will say smartphone apps

For 2013 I'm going to jump on the smartphone apps world + authority site

The hottest thing IMHO right now in IM is trying to find ways to become self-sufficient and not rely on Google. And the easiest way to do that right now seems to be to build an email list, treat it tenderly and build up social profiles that users use, well, actively.

In the past I'd have never attempted these things. But now for my current projects I have in the pipeline, I'm focusing on building high quality content sites, and creating lists and social networks and keeping my users engaged. If your SEO traffic plummets, you can then stay alive off of your list until you get back up in Google again. And if you can find an ulterior way of getting traffic... even better!

If you want automated thing - then yes. Do not categorize all SEO guys - I said what mainstream IMers are after right now - thats how Senuke became so mainstream as it is few buttons solution. ROI in SEO when you are doing proper work can be one of the highest in IM industry. No other thing can you give you white hat 1,000% ROI long term - but you wont achieve this with few pushes of buttons apparently.

I've tried social signals now off and on for years, building tools for the task as well. I have actually very good evidence that Google cannot even index links through retweets or FB shares, as their crawler seems to be completely unable to follow the information.

That alone is sufficient to say signals do nothing, but beyond that, I have never seen any benefit to them either.

This is true. But social traffic is not only social signals...

I've started taking it like Google doesn't even exist. Most of my strategies are based on driving direct traffic or placing a link where i can get the most out of it keeping Google aside. Social is a good thing for sure but it requires a lot of time and dedication to emerge socially. However, it still helps to build relationships and ultimately relationships help to get links.

Well, one thing is for sure. Social media will never run out of hypes. Google even purchased Youtube so one thing is for sure that social media platforms will definitely won't slow down compared to other IM's claims.

Email marketing still promises high ROI if done properly. Therefore if you are doing other things like SEO, Social Media Marketing etc don't stop building your list, keep it going email marketing promises approach direct to the target audience.

In my area (Chicago) MLM is really hot and people are banking off it.

FaceBook gets the most traffic between 8-5 during the week. Bored people at work. It is not going anywhere.
